Overview

The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers make a difference in people's lives. Through the collection and resale of gently used goods we are able to provide the financial support to assist men and women with a variety of social and spiritual afflictions. The in-residence rehabilitation program focuses on basic necessities with every man or woman being provided a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, and spiritual direction. All our effort is focused on developing life skills and a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. More than just a job, each member of the team contributes to recycling goods that literally recycle and repair broken lives.

 

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is seeking a Residence Assistant to assist in daily operations of the residential program by enforcing house rules.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for enforcement of house rules and policies and overall security of center during evening and early morning hours. This includes: ‘lights out’, breathalyzing, drug testing, sign-out/in, bed checks, monitoring adherence to dress codes and attendance at meetings. Report and document violations of policies and center activities to Administrator for Program and appropriate staff as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention assistance to beneficiaries by facilitating communication with emergency services. A written observation report of all crisis counseling sessions is provided to a beneficiary’s primary counselor the following morning.
  • Be available to supervise access to medication; consultation about personal needs, etc.
  • Ensure that canteen is inspected daily for cleanliness and adequate inventory. Submit list of inventory needs to Administrator for Program weekly.
  • Conduct locker inspections as assigned.
  • Receive information from counselors, supervisors and Administrator for Program concerning changes in work therapy assignments, passes approved, etc., for revision of daily/weekly tracking systems. Update daily work list with resident sick list for each day. Maintain daily bed roster. Collect and complete daily statistics and written reports, including attendance report and beneficiaries admitted and/or terminated. Report must include move from beneficiary to transition status (employee or non-employee).
  • Record statistical information specific to your area of responsibility and submit to Administrator/designee at the beginning of each week (weekly reports) and/or no later than the third business day following the end of the month (monthly reports).
  • Arrange for the following (according to center policy): distribution of gratuities and beneficiaries’ mail, emergency transportation, late dinners, pick up/drop off of prescriptions, activity attendance sheets, maintenance of drug screening and breathalyzing equipment, keeping beneficiaries’ personal inventories current, safety meetings, fire drills, meeting (and other) announcements.
  • Ensure that the “house” wakes on time for breakfast, that beneficiaries are in attendance at morning devotions and program activities, and that they arrive at Work Therapy Assignments (WTA) on time. Report to their work therapy supervisor any beneficiary on sick call.
  • Ensure that Housekeeping Monitor has access to supplies for janitorial team and other necessary supplies.
  • Submit inventory of supplies is submitted to Administrator for Program weekly.
  • Report repair and maintenance needs to Administrator for Program/designee immediately.
  • Assign personnel for relief responsibilities (security) and/or relieve security personnel during meals, breaks, program meetings.
  • Make beneficiaries aware of policies by conducting orientation class and answering questions regarding center policies.
  • Issue clothing voucher for new beneficiaries ensuring all have proper Sunday attire.
  • Sell canteen tickets as required.
  • Ensure maintenance of vending machines. Hand deliver canteen and vending machine money, collections and offering to the bookkeeper and obtain written receipt every morning that the Finance office is open.
  • Responsible for recreation and sports activities as assigned by Administrator.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and all meetings as requested by Administrator.
  • Ensure that residence is in order and restrooms are adequately supplied on Sunday morning.
  • Have clear understanding of policy regarding confidentiality, response to law enforcement personnel, and procedure for medical emergencies.
  • Complete monthly Work Therapy Evaluations for beneficiaries in housekeeping and security.
  • Oversee beneficiaries in canteen, janitorial and front desk/security work therapy assignments.
  • This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing to beneficiaries; an example of professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by Supervisor).
  • Other duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Administrator.

 

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous residential and rehabilitation experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries.
  • Is aware of and in agreement with The Salvation Army’s Christian spiritual approach to rehabilitation. Desires to be a part of a team that provides a caring respectful atmosphere to those seeking our help.
