SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 The Youth Director will work with the officers to lead and direct the corps youth programs. They will provide an intensive, relational Christian-based ministry to children, teens and young adults through a variety of program and instructional areas.

 

Responsibilities

CORPS PROGRAMMING ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.  

  • Develop and build relationships with area youth through Salvation Army programs, local School System and local universities offering mentoring and spiritual guidance.
  • Lead or assist in the following programs:
    • Prepare and teach a Sunday School Class, designated by Corps Officers
    • Lead a Youth Group activity (Boys Adventure Corps, Sunbeams, etc.) based on gender and as directed by Corps Officers
    • Lead the Corps Cadets and the Teen weekly programs.
    • Lead the music and arts programming including, Star Search, Weekly Music and Arts Program
    • Organize and Direct summer youth programs as designated by Corps Officers
    • Lead and Direct Summer VBS
    • Monthly Teen nights
  • Assist with Corps programming transportation needs.
  • Attend and participate in Divisional activities as directed by Corps Officers.
  • Any other tasks as designated by the Corps Officers that would be beneficial to the continued development of the Glens Falls corps.

 

YOUTH PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION, PUBLIC RELATIONS, FINANCE AND BUDGETING

  • Attend community meetings as advised by Corps Officers.
  • Promote community Awareness of the Youth Programs in the community.
  • Keep appropriate stats and records of programs and volunteers.
  • Supervise and provide training for all youth program volunteers.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Current driver’s license with good driving record.
  • High School diploma; Ministry Degree or prior ministry experience preferred.
  • Ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
  • Basic knowledge of Scripture and Salvation Army Doctrine.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications and Lotus Notes.
  • Work with limited supervision to complete tasks in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • A love for the ministry and mission of The Salvation Army.
