Overview

Position: Shelter Monitor
Location: Warming Center, 151 W. 15th Street, Chester, PA
Availability of Position: Immediate (Several positions available)
Schedule: Part-time Overnight and weekends; On-call under 19 hours per week

Reporting Relationship: Shelter Manager
Salary and Grade: $10.00 per hour; 70 Non-Exempt

Position Overview: The Shelter Monitor is responsible to supervise and maintain order at all times as well as to uphold The Salvation Army standards and program policies and procedures while homeless single men and women participate in the overnight service.

Responsibilities

 Provide supervision at the Warming Center site in order to ensure a safe place for all guests. Direct clients to shelter location in The Salvation Army gym. Perform written intake of each new client referred to the Warming Center Shelter. Refer clients in need of case management to the Stepping Stone Program. Maintain a daily log and census of shelter clients. Complete written incident reports for any unusual and troubling situations and report them. Immediately report to the supervisor or director any damage to property at shelter location. The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the candidate will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

Qualifications

High School Diploma. Human service experience. Prior residential or customer service work experience. Must be able to read, write and speak well in English. Must have computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Programs and be proficient in and the ability to utilize the internet. Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
