Overview

The basketball coach/mentor will be responsible to run our youth basketball program (SAYBALL). The coach/mentor needs to be an example to the children. The coach is to work alongside the corps officers to create and organize a fun learning zone while enhancing their basketball knowledge and skills. creating strategies and practices plans for the children, instructing the children and providing mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Manage volunteers and monitor practice plans and game tactics
  • Lead a group of young children to a basketball knowledge, develop skills and build team chemistry.
  • Conduct practices twice a week
  • Work with individuals and teams to build on-court team and individual skills, competitiveness, and team cohesion.
  • Monitor children’s athletic progress and maintain communication with their parents as needed.
  • Maintain open and effective avenues of communication with children, parents and Corps Officer.
  • Help in fund-raising and continuing development of positive public relations between the Salvation Army and the community.
  • Inform corps officers, parents, and children about events such as games, practices.
  • Participate in recruitment for the program
  • Guide and lead Christian Devotions
  • Mentor the young people to live a fruitful life
  • Clean up the gym before and after practice and games

Qualifications

  • Need to have basic knowledge of Basketball
  • Need to have experience with working children
  • Need to have experience of playing basketball at least in High School (College Experience preferred)
  • Need to be a people person
  • Need to be punctual
  • Need to have knowledge of proper social media usage
