Overview

Location: CONNRI Lodge (Ashford, CT)

Status: Non-exempt, On-Call

Scope & Purpose of Position: The CONNRI Lodge and Conference Center is booked mostly on weekends with some weekday groups throughout the year. The Cook would assure the kitchen and meals are maintained and managed before, during, and after these rental groups use the facility on an as-needed basis. 

Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety.
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as necessary to be informed of regulations and changes.
  • Clean up after all food preparations, which includes but is not limited to dishwashing, taking out trash, etc.
  • Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience.
  • Ensure that the kitchen and dining area is kept clean and sanitary, meeting all State and ACA sanitary codes.
  • Ensure that the walk-in and reach-in coolers are clean.
  • Maintain a file of standardized recipes for all foods prepared.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen throughout the day.
  • Make sure that all meals are ready on time, tasty, presented well, nutritious, and with adequate portions.
  • Notify supervisors of any damages, deficits, and disturbances (e.g. water leaks, heat not working properly, clogged pipes, pest infestation, etc.).
  • Prepare and serve food and set up dining room with the assistance of kitchen staff.
  • Prepare menu and generate a food order to be provided to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Protect equipment and report to supervisor any inadequacies.
  • Receive foods when delivered, check deliveries for accuracy, and give food invoices to the supervisor.
  • Remove expired food continuously.
  • Store all foods neatly upon delivery.

Qualifications

  • Initiative and self-direction.
  • Must be able to perform heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have at least two years of experience in food preparation.
  • Must possess a QFO and ServeSafe certificate and familiarity with State, ACA, and USDA regulations.
  • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
