Position: New Home Anti-Trafficking Milieu Worker

Department: Philadelphia Social Service Ministries; New Day New Home;      Work Location: Montgomery County                  

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours a week), Sundays- Thursday: 11 pm- 7am    

Reporting Relationship: New Home House Manager       

Salary and Grade: $16.00 per hour; 73 Non-Exempt

Position Overview: The New Home Milieu Worker is to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for The New Home residents through the

implementation and monitoring of the healing environment at New Home.  The Milieu Worker is responsible for the daily emotional and

psychological safety of the residents and supports the residents in meeting their healing and emotional goals. The Milieu Worker is to

communicate and support all residents in a trauma informed manner.  The Milieu worker will co-facilitate life skills groups that cover such topics

as emotional management, applying for victim’s compensation, and how to adjust their independent living skills in order to return to a

pre-victimization status.  The Milieu Worker works closely with the case manager to support the residents in meeting their individual goals

through helping residents fill out applications or paperwork.  Milieu Worker will inform residents of information regarding victims’ compensation

claims and support in filing.  The Milieu Worker is to effectively communicate with the house manager, other residential advisors, participate in

weekly client review, as well as team meetings in order to create a trauma informed environment. 



  • Documentation for all safety concerns as well as the daily functioning of residents in order to support a trauma informed environment.
  • Inform residents of victim’s compensation fund and assist with filing claims.
  • Responds to all emergencies in accordance with established procedures and completes house checks hourly or more if needed.
  • Create and participate in running psycho-educational groups with the residential community.
  • Maintains resident and staff confidentiality.
  • Enhances the safety and welfare of residents and staff by conducting room checks, inspecting bags if necessary, and asking for I.D. from outside visitors. Ensure that the front door is always closely monitored, and visitors are checked for proper credentials in order to create a safe environment.
  • Completes all new day reporting and the gathering of statistical information as required and entering into data system. Reports all information to House Manager for VOCA reporting.
  • Effectively communicates with house management and case manager significant events or incidents during previous shift along with informing of any special arrangements that have been posted.
  • Maintain and uphold the principles and commitments of The Sanctuary Model and attend all relevant and necessary trainings associated with Sanctuary.
  • Support Case Manager in resident with goals such as obtaining benefits and vital records; supporting with appointments and various case management needs.
  • Co-facilitate S.E.L.F. groups and life skills groups. Support residents in developing and maintaining individual safety plans in order to support with their emotional, physical, and psychological safety.
  • Participate and lead Community Meetings to reinforce Sanctuary Model with residents.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for residents, staff, and self by maintaining a positive and professional demeanor, healthy boundaries and always uphold the code of conduct of The Salvation Army .
  • Participate in client review meetings and client extension meetings.
  • Support in orienting residents into NDNH.
  • Utilize the value of growth and change and lead empowerment-based discussions with residents around program and structure concerns.


Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Prior residential, social service, or customer service work experience. Must have computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Programs and be proficient in and the ability to utilize the internet. As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.  Candidate must have, an understanding of, and an appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
