REPORTS TO:            Work cooperatively to the Corps Officer and Emergency Assistance Manager/Social Ministries Director


SUPERVISES:            None               


STATUS:                     Non – Exempt, Full-time          


SCHEDULE:               Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm


FUNCTION:                This position is responsible for Emergency Assistance Services at the downtown and/or other Corps location as needed. Services performed in this position include: assessing the basic needs of low-income individuals and families, providing assistance in the form of food, financial assistance, vouchers for in-kind items such as clothing and furniture, and linking participants to services that will help stabilize their crisis.  This position will conduct registration for camp and seasonal programs. This position will work in harmony with the Corps Officer and/ or Department Director to carry-out The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.                 


  • Assess the basic and emergency needs of low-income individuals and families participating in the program.
  • Through crisis intervention, advocacy and case planning, assist participants in forming a plan to stabilize the crisis.
  • Provide direct material assistance in the form of food, financial assistance (as funds are available, i.e., utility, rent, other) or other forms of assistance as needed to stabilize the participant’s crisis.              
  • Link participants with services that will assist in the long-term stabilization of the crisis.
  • Respond to all Emergency Assistance telephone calls, walk-ins and inquires.     
  • Conduct registration for programs such as camp, seasonal programs, other programs as requested.
  • Maintain and compile service statistics on all clients. Turn in to the Social Ministries Administrative Assistant each month.
  • Place and pick up food pantry orders on an as needed basis, stock food pantry, maintain pantry guidelines and expectations.  Complete food pantry statistics report and submit to Corps Officer on monthly basis.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Cooperate with other Salvation Army staff, including the Worship and Service Center ministry team, to create and maintain a harmonious and efficient environment.
  • Maintain time sheet and turn in when due.
  • Consult the Emergency Assistance Manager/Social Ministries Director for additional information, feedback, and approval on assistance with difficult or unusual client situations.
  • Follow rules, regulations, and policies of The Salvation Army
  • Network with community agencies to build a greater referral potential for Salvation Army client systems.
  • Maintain a personal program of professional development.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Corps Officer or Emergency Assistance Manager/Social Ministries Director.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Willingness to uphold and support The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.
