SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Maintain the cleanliness of the facilities, including staff offices.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the facilities, including staff offices.
  • Prepare the shelter for inspections.
  • Maintain the safety of the shelter for residents; ie, making sure items are not left in halls and stairways that pose a safety risk to residents, identifying and reporting safety issues to the Shelter Manager, etc.
  • Ensure that shelter rules are followed as outlined in The Salvation Army Anew Center Manual, alerting Chain of Command to problems as they arise.
  • Make sure rooms that are vacated are thoroughly cleaned before they are assigned to new residents.
  • Assess housekeeping needs at the facilities and inform Chain of Command for intervention if needed.
  • Make sure that shelter is ready for annual inspections conducted by the Salvation Army, The Office of Children and Family Services, and the Food Bank of WNY.
  • Maintain laundry as needed for the smooth running of shelter.
  • Assure compliance with fire and safety procedures.
  • Other duties and responsibilities according to policy and procedure as assigned by Administrative staff and Supervisory staff.

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment and able to learn acceptable cleaning methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
• Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions
• Ability to willingly attend and participate in training sessions
• Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements
