To manage case work for the Plainfield & Bound Brook Corps Social Service programs under the direction of the Corps Officer, with professional supervision provided by Divisional Headquarters Human Services Staff when requested. The Case Worker will be able to identify the needs of the clients served and provide outreach within the community at large.


  • Perform intakes, interviews, and distribution of services, including but not limited to financial, food, and/or hygiene products based on the assessed needs of the clients.
  • Assess the needs of the clients and perform follow up with households for other supportive programs available beyond emergency assistance, if needed.
  • Coordinate services with partner agencies to ensure a holistic service approach for all clients.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely submission of records and reports in applicable databases for all community programs and funding sources as requested by the Corps Officers, including but not limited to grants such as CSBG and CDBG.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and updated case records in accordance with The Salvation Army record-keeping policies and procedures.
  • Keep up-to-date records and statistics as required by the Food Bank, FEMA, Union County, and The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of the food pantry, hygiene pantry, and diaper bank supplies.
  • Manage food pantry volunteers in packing food & hygiene bags, as well as organizing food on shelves and freezers. Oversee volunteers as it pertains to the sustainability and flow of social services.
  • Assist with special events planning, seasonal assistance, and implementation (i.e., Angel Tree Program, Summer Camp applications, Toy Distributions), including application sign-ups for families and Kettle Workers.
  • Prepare and maintain Salvation Army statistical reports for timely submissions.
  • Attend and participate in regular staff meetings/trainings and individual supervision meetings as required. Attend Community/County meetings for local leaders, as well as meetings that pertain to the requirements of grants and funding.
  • Uphold standards and principles of The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • At least 1 – 2 years of experience in casework or counseling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish rapport.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.
  • Experience with data entry & community and county grant databases.
  • Knowledgeable of County and community resources.
  • Ability to manage time well and prioritize competing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of interactions with clients, fellow employees, community partners, and volunteers.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations served.
  • Reliable transportation to get to required community/county meetings.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
