Overview

Shall provide excellent customer service and serve as the first point of contact for all individuals seeking assistance. Shall provide a variety of services to individuals in need, including food, personal hygiene items, clothing, furniture, housing and utility assistance, referrals to community resources, and seasonal programming. Shall coordinate feeding programs including ordering food, packaging food for distribution, keeping inventory, ensuring that the appropriate paperwork is completed and maintained, and the submission of monthly statistics. Shall oversee administrative functions for the Corps.

Responsibilities

  • Represent The Salvation Army, the church and service programs in a professional and caring manner.
  • Work as a team with Corps Officers to encourage clients to participate in the holistic program of The Salvation Army.
  • Always maintain client confidentiality.
  • Answer the telephone, take messages, and direct messages to the appropriate personnel.
  • Conduct interviews and screen individuals for assistance.
  • Provide direct service to clients including, but not limited to intake/assessment, referrals, advocacy, material assistance such as food, clothing/furniture vouchers, and personal hygiene items, and financial assistance such as gift cards, housing assistance, and utility assistance based upon guidelines, available resources, and policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.
  • Coordinate all aspects of feeding programs, including food pantry, Senior food boxes, and community meals/soup kitchen in accordance with established policies, including ordering food, packaging food for distribution, keeping inventory, ensuring that the appropriate paperwork is completed, and the preparation of monthly statistics.
  • Refer clients seeking spiritual guidance to the Corps Officers.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate client files with pertinent information, documents, as well as a record of services provided and case notes in the online Social Services database.
  • Keep up to date record of services provided for statistical reporting.
  • Stay current on other resources and services available in the community.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, conferences, and other professional development opportunities for social services/technical skills improvement.
  • Assist with seasonal projects as requested: Dollar Energy, Bundle-Up, Thanksgiving Assistance, Christmas Assistance, Camp Allegheny, Adopt-A-Family, Sheetz Family Christmas, etc.
  • Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and events for Corps programs as requested.
  • Oversee the main office and all pertinent equipment (copier, fax, phones).
  • Perform administrative functions including: writing letters, making copies, completing faxes, inventorying office supplies, etc.
  • Process paperwork, track hours and assign duties to volunteers as needed.
  • The above duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive and may be modified to include other job-related duties at the discretion of the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in social work or related discipline. (Preferred)
  • At least 1 year of experience in social work or related field.
