Position: Resident Advisor
Location: The Kirby family House, 17 S Pennsylvania Ave., Wilkes-Barre
Availability of Position: Immediately
Schedule: Part-Time; weekend 2nd shift 2:30 pm -8:30 pm or 8:30 pm -12:30 am; Friday-Sunday; Flexible hours (under 20 hrs. per week)
Reporting Relationship: Shift Supervisor
Salary and Grade: $10.00 hour; 73 Non-Exempt


About Us: The Salvation Army Kirby Family House provides long term case managed emergency housing services for homeless families. During their stay at the Kirby Family House, our goal is to help stabilize residents as many are in need of much more than food and housing. Our educational programs help them become more financially independent. Additionally, we reach out to them emotionally and spiritually. We also believe in play and entertainment as this allows us to gain residents trust, break down barriers and help them center themselves so they can continue on their journey into independent living.



Position Overview:  The Resident Advisor will assist the residents in fulfilling their day-to-day activities and responsibilities of the program.  Responsible for the condition of the house, safety, enforcing rules, cleaning, general office, clerical and phone work, meal preparation and service as well as reporting on residents’ progress, incidents and successes and communicating these to Case Management staff and Corp Officers.


The Resident Advisor will follow the rules and regulations so they maintain compliance. Ensures strict adherence to all policies including those related to confidentiality, boundary issues and professionalism; and maintain high ethical standards and exemplary moral conduct at all times.  Demonstrate knowledge and professionalism while working at the front desk; answering the telephone, keeping messages, compiling daily shift reports, as well as reviewing previous shift reports.  Assisting the Program Director with various duties such as filing, copying and other miscellaneous duties.  Assist with meal preparation/service.  The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the Resident Advisor will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.


High School Diploma or GED. One (1) year experience in related field of work. Must possess strong organizational ability, ability to follow up with complaints, problem solve, be flexible, must have very strong verbal and written skills. Ability to work independently and under pressure while remaining tolerant, patient, and respectful of all people we serve. Must have excellent customer service skills and an ability to get along well with all people. Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Must understand and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
