Assistant Cook:  Assistant Cook is responsible for the Food/Dining Services Department and will help to cook, prepare and serve meals to our clients at the Emergency Family Shelter and the Senior Day Program

Part-Time, Hourly:  Sunday-9am-6:30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 2pm-6:30pm

This is an immediate opening.   The Assistant Cook is part of the Food Services team.  The position requires the ability to assist with meal preparation along with helping to serve meals to our clients and clean-up once meal time is over. 

 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

While reporting directly to the Lead Cook, the Assistant Cook is solely responsible for the preparation, serving and clean-up of meals to our clients on the weekends. 

They will also serve as a member of the Food Services Team during their week day shifts.  

  • Meals:  Will work as a member of the Food Services team by assisting with the preparation and serving of meals to our clients.
  • Serve:  Help to serve brunch and dinner to our clients for the Emergency Family Shelter for their Sunday meals.

  • Food Services Team:  Assist with preparing, serving and clean-up of meals for our Emergency Family Shelter.
  • Delivery:  Assist with the packaging, delivery and services of meals and supplies.
  • Inventory Control:  Assist with the putting away and rotating stock; perform other reasonable services requested.
  • Kitchen Equipment:  Help to wash dishes, glass, flatware, pots, pans and utensils.
  • Product:  Assist with loading and unloading of delivery trucks when needed.
  • Senior Adult Day Program:  Will serve as back-up for meal preparation, server and clean-up.
  • Health & Safety:  Maintain cleanliness of Kitchen and Dining areas at all times.
  • Meal Delivery:  Deliver meals as needed to Programs within The Salvation Army.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months to One (1) year of experience working within the restaurant/commercial kitchen industry preferred.
  • Customer Service experience working with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills 
  • Must be able to use commercial kitchen equipment and stepladder
  • Valid NYS Driver License
