Overview

To drive bus for Senior Citizen pick-ups in the mornings and return home in the afternoon and perform any other errands as needed.

To provide cleaning services and maintenance assistance for Senior Center.

Employee will work 40 hours a week, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30, with a 30-minute lunch (unpaid) and two paid 15-minute breaks – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. 

Responsibilities

  • Drive Senior Citizens to and from their homes and The Salvation Army Corps Community Center. Help seniors on and off bus, give assistance with packages, walkers and whatever is needed.
  • Responsible to drive for special occasions, trips, appointments, and other times deemed necessary by director.
  • Make sure that seniors adhere to safety standards.
  • Attend to seniors as needed when in the building.
  • Make sure that both the interior of both vehicles is always clean and safe.
  • Once a week thorough cleaning of interior, including windows, seats, floor, etc.
  • Make sure that both vehicles are filled with gasoline.
  • Check engine oil fluids and tire pressure at least by-weekly on both vehicles and recommend oil changes and maintenance when necessary.
  • Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, floors, and partitions daily.
  • Sweep and mop all hard floor surfaces daily and buff when necessary.
  • Replace paper supplies and soap in restrooms as needed.
  • Set up room as needed.
  • Empty trash and take out recycling.
  • Perform other light maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • The Driver/Custodian is responsible to Commanding Officer and Senior/Assistant Director to perform any additional assignments under their direction.
  • The Salvation Army has the right to modify, delete or add to this job description. 

Qualifications

  • Must maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Must be capable of driving senior center vehicles.
  • Must be able to do heavy lifting.
  • Must have prior maintenance experience.
  • Must have basic knowledge of tools and maintenance routines.
