The Mission Specialist is responsible for the supervision of the programs offered and establishing new ministries at the Hornell Outpost and Wellsville Corps. The Mission Specialist will provide supervision for the Food Pantry Coordinator/Office Assistant at the Hornell Outpost and Wellsville Corps.  The Mission Specialist will plan the services, outreach activities, and direct the soldiery and volunteers in a ministry to reach the lost in the Hornell and Wellsville community.




General Duties:

  1. Overall leadership, establishing and supervision of all ministries and services provided
  2. Promote The Salvation Army mission through programs and services
  3. Help facilitate The Hub ministry connection (social ministry and spiritual ministry through internships with Houghton students and local agencies/organization as needed
  4. Connect children and families with Long Point Camp and its registration requirements; help facilitate transportation to and from Long Point Camp for any related events
  5. Collect and report stats to Employee in Charge
  6. Perform duties as required as it pertains to the Red Kettle Campaign under the direction of the Employee in Charge
  7. Account for and deposit all funds collected in the various ministries
  8. Maintain the Salvation Army facilities and vehicles, and inform of any repairs needed to Employee in Charge


Congregational Life Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Spiritual care
  2. Able to start bible study groups and worship services
  3. Provide connections and follow up with families/clients, connecting them to Corps/Ministry programming.
  4. Provide oversight to specialized group ministries, i.e., Women’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and offer spiritual direction to these groups.
  5. Mobilizing people into small groups and ministries according to their gifts and talents
  6. Attend and participate as required, all Divisional events, i.e. Family Camp meetings at Long Point

Camp, Men’s Camp, etc.


 Social Ministries Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate all EFA programs, i.e. Food Pantry, Financial Assistance
  2. Coordinate volunteers and staff to pick up food donations
  3. Management and monitoring for quality, impact accountability and outcome measurements, for all funding requirements; food bank, UW, EF&SP, etc.
  4. Monitor timely submission, accuracy, and appropriateness of responses for all required reports, regulatory agency inspections and follow-up on implementation of correct actions.
  5. Maintain client files/service point data management program
  6. Maintain Statistics and track client’s services for distribution to; Salvation Army, HPNAP, OSP, UW/EF&SP, etc. including tracking in-kind donations.
  7. Other duties as assigned



1. Be a mature Christian, professing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
2. Must demonstrate an understanding of the doctrines, procedures, and policies of The Salvation Army
3. Strong data base, writing and communication skills
4. Associate degree required – Bachelor’s degree preferred.
5. Demonstrated cultural competency in community/comprehensive social services programs.
