Overview

To assist the Corps Officers in ministry, programming and outreach, including, but not limited to, management and support of The Salvation Army After-School Program and Summer Day Camp and leadership and support of children’s and youth ministries, program, and events.  This position will be tasked with connecting the community kids that come through the after-school program and the summer day camp to the Spring Valley Corps.  It is expected that this position will be an active member of the Spring Valley Corps of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain certifications for The Salvation Army After-School Program with the state and local offices and other governing agencies, including the maintenance of all records, files and statistics as well as the preparation of reports for such agencies. Ensure that all pertinent regulations are being followed and all required training are being conducted.  Act as a liaison to different governing agencies as directed by the Corps Officer.
  • Provide leadership to and manage the after-school program staff. Take the lead in hiring, training and evaluation of staff.
  • Maintain all program schedules and student records including application/registration forms, health and emergency contact information and parental permission forms
  • Receive and account for weekly student tuition payments including receipting each payment and daily submissions of all funds to corps officers
  • Schedule events that will create awareness for the program and that will connect the after-school program students with the Spring Valley Corps
  • Provide leadership for students and handle student discipline issues as presented by after school staff.
  • Model behavior management practices that are consistent with Christian values and acceptable to The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students and parents to foster desired behavior.
  • Make recommendations to corps officer for extreme disciplinary actions such as suspension or expulsion from program.
  • Organizing classrooms for programs and ensuring that program areas and program storage areas are clean and in good order at the end of each day
  • Supervise students in the homework, classroom activity and recreation times
  • Organize and prepare snacks for students
  • Plan weekly devotions and provide guidance to students in after school program
  • Work with teachers and director in providing a pleasant and safe learning environment for students maintaining all KeepSafe standards and practices
  • Attend and support all events that the after-school program participates in
  • Maintains the vending machine and turns funds in to Corps Officer 

Adult Learning/Recreation Programming 

  • Schedule groups such as Juwanio and Camp Venture to utilize our gym and classrooms
  • Work with Corps Officers in the implementation and establishment of ESL Classes 

Summer Fun Program 

  • Maintain certifications for Summer Fun Program with state and local offices and other governing agencies, including the maintenance of all records, files and statistics as well as the preparation of reports for such agencies.
  • Act as a liaison to different governing agencies as directed by Corps Officer
  • Provide leadership to manage the Summer Fun staff. Take the lead in the hiring, training and evaluation of Summer staff.
  • Develop weekly program schedules for both campers and staff
  • Provide leadership for campers and handle camper discipline issues as presented by Summer Fun staff.
  • Model behavior management practices that are consistent with Christian values and acceptable to The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain positive relationships with camper and parents to foster desired behavior.
  • Make recommendations to corps officer for extreme disciplinary actions such as suspensions or expulsion from program
  • Maintain all camper records including application/registration forms, health and emergency contact information and parental permission forms and maintaining all KeepSafe standards and practices
  • Receive and account for weekly camp tuition payments including receipting each payment and daily submissions of all finds to corps officer
  • Plan and organize all field trips and swimming 

Youth Ministry and Programming 

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of children’s and youth ministries, including ongoing programming and special events
  • Provide leadership for corps, delegation at divisional and territorial events as assigned by the Corps Officers, including assisting the Corps Officer in the promotion, registration and transportation of these events
  • Assist Corps Officers in leading teen group ministry
  • Assist Corps Officers with college age ministry at the corps
  • Be prepared to participate in Sunday Worship as assigned by the Corps Officer
  • Teach a Sunday School class
  • Assist in providing transportation for soldiers and members for corps programming as needed
  • Maintain statistics for the Spring Valley Corps

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience working with children
  • Minimum 3 years work in related field
  • Active Salvationist
  • Well organized and able to prioritize
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision
