Emergency Practical Assistance Services (E/PAS)

Overview:  The position of Case Aide works in our Food Pantry, (The Red Door) which is located within our E/PAS-Emergency Practical Assistance Services Department. 

The Case Aide provides direct assistance to individuals who enter the Emergency and Practical Assistance Services office.  They will screen for potential referrals in-house or in the community.  Enter data into the community Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) from the intake area for E/PAS programs. Complete Food Insecurity screenings and maintain contact with individuals identified for this programThey are a member of the Food Pantry Team and will assist with all aspects of the food pantry, including lunch coverage and reception assistance.   


Essential Job Duties:


  • Assist E/PAS programs by screening and making referrals, setting up appointments or referring to community resources that can meet their needs.
  • Conduct food insecurity screenings with identified households and track progress with these households for a 6-month period.
  • Assist in advocating for client’s needs with individuals and agencies including landlords, utility services, family members, and community service providers as needed.                                                           
  • Assist with picking up food from off sites for pantry or program use.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating client files for E/PAS programs.                                                                              
  • Answer info/referral phone line and make the appropriate referrals.    
  • Provide direct assistance with Food, Formula, Diapers etc.
  • Assist the Food Pantry Coordinator to ensure shelves and refrigerator/freezer are stocked at the end of each day.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Food Pantry and the E/PAS waiting area.
  •  Accurately complete in a timely manner client service information and financial paperwork 
  • Monthly filing of documents for the Food Pantry and E/PAS programs.
  • Assist Case Managers with home visits in the community.
  • Responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the Food Pantry and the E/PAS waiting area.




  • High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent with One-Two years of relevant internship, volunteer and/or work experience
  • PC Skills to include MS Suite, Word, Excel, Power Pointe and Internet.
  • Must have strong time management skills and the ability to work independently
  • Must have a valid NYS Drivers License that meet The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
  • Access to private transportation during work hours.
  • Position requires the ability to pass a comprehensive background and drug screenings.
