Early Head Start Program at The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area

Full-Time, Hourly & Non-Exempt Position, Access to Full Benefits after 90-days of Employment

 Overview:  The Classroom Specialist is responsible for supporting: classroom environment , maintain and update child assessment, child files, and database . Serve as a resource and model supports in Developmentally

Appropriate Practices for teachers in their class room instruction. Provide instruction and supports for teachers in developing nurturing and positive relationships with children and families


Essential Job Duties:

  • Collect and monitor child and staff data
    • Ensure each child assessments have been completed, classroom supply orders that meet health and safety requirements, staff monthly paperwork, staff training needs and child development (EI) needs
    • Will review all monthly submitted paperwork to ensure all staff and partner entities remain in compliance with EHS requirements for child development and assessments
    • Generate data reports for monthly summaries
    • Provide daily push in supports for teacher concerns/needs
    • Conduct weekly classroom checklist for compliance
    • Ensure staff development training needs are communicated to SCDC to ensure that all staff are trained on child development and assessment tools, child tracking information is complete, parent teacher conferences are occurring. Ensure that files are in alignment with paperwork completion deadlines
    • Model teacher instruction with staff as needed to model appropriate teacher child relations in small group activities
    • Will occasionally individualize instruction with teachers for the purpose of providing classroom activities that support individual/group needs in compliance with program performance standards
    • Assist with maintenance of physical site to ensure safety, cleanliness, adequate supplies and


Job Requirements:

  • Degree:  BS Degree preferred in Early Childhood Education or related field with at least 9 credits of early childhood education coursework.
  • Advance degree equivalent with coursework in early childhood education AND early education teaching experience
  • Valid NYS Driver's licence that meets The Salvation Army's Insurance requirements
  • Access to private transportation during work hours.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Meet health requirements per licensing
  • Clearance through NYS/DSS Central Registry and Drug Screen required.
