About Us: The Salvation Army Eliza Shirley House provides emergency housing services for homeless families (women and children) 365 days of the year. We provide temporary accommodation for families for approximately 30 to 60 days at which time they are placed into long term City of Philadelphia housing programs. During their stay at the Eliza Shirley House, our goal is to help stabilize residents, as many are in need of much more than food and housing. Our educational programs help them become more financially independent. Additionally, we reach out to them emotionally and spiritually. We also believe in play and entertainment, as this allows us to gain residents trust, break down barriers and help them center themselves so they can continue their journey into independent living.
Position Overview: The Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning residents sleeping area, hallways, bathrooms, lounge area, shower, steps, walls, etc.
The floor monitor is responsible for assisting residents with their needs, for ensuring residents leave their assigned floor by set hours, and for ensuring that residents are following the rules and regulations at ESH.
A typical day the Housekeeper/Floor monitor will report to their assigned floor and from 8am -9:30am M-F they will be required to monitor the residents. This consists of assist residents with any needs they may have, ensure residents are up, dressed and ready to leave the floor by 9:30am. After the residents leave the floor all rooms are swept, dusted and mopped. All showers, bathrooms, lounge areas cleaned and mopped, furniture wiped down, and trash emptied. Walls, blinds, trash cans are cleaned as needed or directed. At 3:00pm residents return to their assigned floor.
On the Weekend the floors close at 12:30pm so floors are monitored from 8:am to 12:30pm. Bathrooms and showers need to be checked, and trash needs to be emptied, but cleaning duties differ on the weekend.

High School Diploma or GED. One (1) year Housekeeping experience in related field of work. Must be an independent self-starter and be able to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work independently and under pressure while remaining tolerant, patient and respectful of all people we serve. Must have excellent customer service skills and an ability to get along well with all people. Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Must understand and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
