Overview

Location/Department: Bridgeport Corps (Bridgeport, Connecticut)

Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

Hours Per Week: 20 hours

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9AM – 2PM 

 

Scope & Purpose of Position: Will maintain the safety and cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the Corps and surrounding property. Will complete driving duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Empty trash cans daily throughout the building.
  • Vacuum and dust building, including offices, as needed.
  • Disinfect furniture and other common touch points multiple times daily throughout the building.
  • Clean and disinfect all bathrooms, which includes mopping and refilling toilet paper, soap dispensers, and paper towel dispensers.
  • Clean windows as needed.
  • Receive all deliveries and ensure that they are securely packed and covered in storage rooms.
  • Keep proper inventory of custodial supplies and inform supervisor(s) when item need to be ordered prior to running out.
  • Keep pantry and storage area swept and mopped, particularly after all deliveries have been stored.
  • Clean and maintain front and sides of building, making sure these areas are always clean.
  • Attend to specialized cleaning needs (i.e. removing gum, clearing cobwebs, and spot cleaning carpets) to ensure facility is visually appealing.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance (mow grass, remove snow, rake leaves, cut brush, etc.).
  • Assist with the cleanliness and upkeep of storage areas, thus eliminating any fire hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain vacuum cleaners in operable condition, if repairs are needed notify supervisor(s) immediately.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Hang bulletin boards, pictures, etc. as requested by supervisor.
  • Perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Assist with moving furniture and equipment, as needed.
  • Report to superiors any emergencies as they arise.
  • Complete required 12 passenger van training and maintain all appropriate knowledge to drive and maintain this vehicle.
  • Clean vehicles inside and out
  • Operate The Salvation Army vehicle for pick-up and delivery duties, as needed.
  • Prepare sites for special events/trainings (set up and take down furniture and equipment).
  • Attend staff meetings/trainings, as required.
  • Obtain thorough knowledge of all emergency cut-offs (water, gas, electrical, clean out traps, fire extinguishers, and fire hydrants).
  • Report unsafe working/living conditions to supervisor.
  • Maintain positive relations with other staff members, suppliers, vendors, and professionals.
  • Adhere to guidelines for staff responsibilities as found in The Salvation Army’s Employee Manuals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a 12-passenger cargo/transport van and pass required driving test.
  • One year of related experience required.
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions while communicating closely with supervisor(s).
  • Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess the necessary knowledge of custodial tool use and able to perform everyday custodial functions.
  • Must be self-motivated and have a genuine interest in the cleanliness and care of the facility.
  • Must observe safety standards and procedures related to custodial work.
  • Must be organized and have a high attention to detail and the ability to prioritize.
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the workplace.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and judgment.
  • Evidence of dependability, self-security, and good judgment.
  • Ability to relate with persons of various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
