Overview

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The cook assistant is a vital part of the ministry team of The Salvation Army.  This individual will help ensure that meals served in the soup kitchen are prepared and served with excellence.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with preparation of daily meal for approximately 100 people
  • Understand and adhere to all health code requirements and related expectations
  • Be responsible for overall cleanliness of the Soup Kitchen and dining area
  • Be responsible for any other item consistent with cooking, storing, serving of food including Thanksgiving and Christmas preparations or operation of the Soup Kitchen as determined by the Corps Officer
  • Assist in unloading food and supplies as they come in
  • Stand in for the Soup Kitchen Manager when needed
  • Pick up donations when needed
  • Assist in all aspects of maintaining the building

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

·        It is essential that the cook assistant have working knowledge of how to prepare large meals.

·        Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.

·        Ability to complete and pass Food safety certification, through the Food Bank. 

·        Must have a means of communication in which can be reached via phone
