Overview

To assist the Corps Officer(s) in the overall maintenance and appearance of the building and surrounding property.

Responsibilities

  • Daily responsibility for the maintenance, cleanliness and order of the interior building.
  • Snow Removal during Winter Season
  • Landscape Maintenance
  • Daily responsibility for the maintenance and cleanliness of the grounds, surrounding the corps properties including the parking lots, walkways, lawns dumpster area, etc.
  • Assist in the direction / supervision of community service workers and maintenance volunteers
  • Maintain order and organization in janitorial closets
  • Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies and communicate with officers when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Set up & clean for special events
  • Check outside perimeters by removing all unsightly debris,
  • Vacuum all floor mats, check all wastebaskets for trash, dust & mop lobby all halls, dance studio, and offices.
  • Take out garbage and recycling for pick up on scheduled removal days.
  • Check all bathrooms for cleanliness, replenish soap and paper towels, (sweep, clean toilets and mop floor as needed.)
  • Sweep and mop kitchen area.
  • Clean chapel (including vacuum, dusting, mopping and sanitizing chairs and equipment)
  • Clean all stairwells (make sure they are free of debris or trash, sanitize railing and mop when needed)
  • Touch up paint throughout the building, minor repairs, change of lightbulbs, etc. when necessary
  • Fix plumbing fixtures when necessary.
  • To communicate clearly with Corps Officers and perform these and other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or the equivalent
  • Must have a valid NY State Driver License
  • Must pass all background checks for work with minors
  • Must be flexible, having an ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Experience operating varied tools.
  • Experience in cleaning or housekeeping services
  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and proper use/ storage
  • Ability to take initiative and good work ethic.
  • Ability to lift, up to 50 pounds; standing or walking for long periods.
  • Good communication skills, organization skills and able to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to The Salvation Army's mission and purpose
