Overview

 

Completes intakes, assists with discharges, completes paperwork as needed. Works closely with adult residents. Provides orientation to the program. Reviews program rules, policies and procedures with clients. Reports rule violations, injuries, and incidents to assigned worker and management – both verbally and in writing via the special report (must be completed by the end of their scheduled shift).

 

 

This position pays $11.00 / hr

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Offer support to residents by being respectful and providing active listening to meet the client’s needs. Notify assigned social worker of critical information about the client. Provide information and direction to residents while simultaneously holding them accountable to the rules and regulations of the shelter.
  • Actively engage adults participating in group activities. Encourage their active participation. Sitting in the back of the meeting room is unacceptable.
  • Demonstrate the concern for the safety by walking your assigned floor every 20 minutes.  
  • Conduct intakes when needed in compliance with McKinny Vento’s definition of homelessness. Complete forms; provide orientation to the shelter; review policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Assign and supervise residents’ completion of chores; provide supplies and instruction as necessary. Conduct room checks, and issue violation points as needed.
  • Be a role model for appropriate demeanor; providing respect and re-direction when needed. Intervene in potentially volatile situations in order to de-escalate a situation and/or notify security and or 911 for assistance. Complete incident reports, special reports, and injury reports.
  • Welcome and assist guest speakers, presenters, volunteers, and agencies that offer their services or goods to our residents and our shelter.
  • Set up and serve meals and snacks, or prepare bag lunches according to USDA regulations. Maintain records of those served. Assure compliance with all Cleveland Board of Health standards for hand washing; wearing a hair net and gloves. Clean up and sterilize food service areas and arrange for proper storage of all food; being sure that all food is properly marked and dated.
  • Assure good housekeeping and maintenance of rooms assigned. Assist with spraying rooms, furniture and mattresses for insects when needed.
  • Discharge residents when needed and complete the proper paperwork. Bag and label personal belongings; remove and wash linens of discharged residents; clean, sterilize, and prepare empty rooms for future occupancy.
  • Receive and sort donations on request consistent with the current HLC policy; distribute donations when needed by the residents.  
  • Assure safety of all residents and staff by contacting Security and/or 911 in emergencies. Assist with de-escalation when needed, especially if it involves your assigned client. Implement the Facility Emergency Evacuation Procedure (FEEP) as required.
  • Notify the assigned social worker or case manager of suspected neglect and/or abuse of children. Call the Kids Hotline (216-696-5437) to report it and if possible, obtain the Call I.D. number and complete the internal incident report.
  • Notify the assigned social worker or case manager when a resident is talking about harming self or others. Follow the policy for reporting to Mental Health Services (216-623-6888)
  • Store and secure client’s prescribed medication in a file cabinet or refrigerator in a double locked area per HIPPA regulations.
  • Monitor the client’s use of prescribed medication making sure that the medication log is signed by the client for each use. If client is not compliant, notify assigned worker 
  • Record general information in the monitor logbook, date and sign the notes that are entered.
  • Maintain peaceful and cooperative relationship with all clients and co-workers.
  • Obtain 12 clock hours of outside training per year for self development in order to improve services to clients. 
  • Attend all mandatory trainings or meetings

Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Executive Director 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to use stairs, when necessary, for building evacuations, drills or during elevator maintenance.
  • Good assessment and strong judgment skills.
  • Good communication skills including good grammar, spelling and legible handwriting
  • High School diploma or GED
