Render ministerial, outreach and maintenances services as the Maintenance Worker – Day to the East Cleveland Community, recognizing their spiritual, emotional, physical, and social needs – making full use of the Corps and community resources under the direction of the Corps Officers as part of the East Cleveland Corps Ministry Team.  Also your function is to assist the Corps Officers with the day to day operations of the corps and to support and maintain the policies, procedures and overall well-being of the ministry, within the vision and goals of The Salvation Army, its Officers and the Corps.




  • A general maintenance of the building must be kept up at all times; scraps are to be picked up and discarded on sight.
  • Maintain a safe environment by keeping the entrances and exits cleared, sidewalks, parking lot, loading area, etc. Clear of debris, spills, snow and ice and all other hazards.
  • Ensure that the heating/air-conditioning units are turned on according to the weather.
  • Perform ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weed, removing snow and the removal of refuse from the property.
  • Ensure that the heating/air-conditioning units are turned on according to the weather.
  • Sweep and mop or vacuum all rooms each day.
  • Completely clean all bathrooms each day (Toilet, sink, partition walls, floors, garbage emptied) and stocked each day.
  • Ensure that all mops, buckets, brooms and all maintenance paraphernalia are kept clean and stored in designated Maintenance Storage areas on each floor after use each day.
  • Vacuum all carpets.
  • See that the sidewalks, parking lot and play areas are clear of glass, stones, paper and bottles (this should be done twice a week).
  • See that all trash cans in offices and throughout the building are emptied and cleaned each day (Clean outside and inside of can).
  • Train other workers who will be assigned to work with him/her.
  • Take an inventory of supplies in stock and inform the Corps Officers in writing of supplies needed.
  • Arrange chairs and tables in rooms for program activities.
  • Break down all boxes.
  • Dust all ceiling vents.
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles as required.
  • Be responsible make sure that all rooms for meetings at all times.
  • Be responsible for all maintenance equipment.
  • Be able to make minor repairs to equipment and see that all equipment is kept in good working order (oil or grease machinery).
  • Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and events for the Corps as requested by the Corps Officer.
  • Assist with administration of seasonal programs (Christmas, Kettles, Back-to-School, Summer Youth).
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.



  • Must be 21 years old
  • 2 years of experience in the field of building maintenance
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License in good standing
  • Ability to drive 12 passenger van and pass required Salvation Army driving test
