Function: To provide case management for the Ocean County Citadel Corps social service programs under the direction of the Corps Officer with professional supervision provided by Divisional Headquarters Human Services Staff. The Social Service Coordinator will be able to identify the needs of the individuals and families served and provide outreach within the community of Toms River.


  1. Provide advocacy and referrals to individuals and families who are in need of utility assistance, rental assistance and other financial support.
  2. Identify and interact with individuals and families, provide comprehensive case management which includes a holistic approach to self-sufficiency and sustainability.
  3. Coordinate services with local agencies and churches to ensure wrap-around care is in place for individuals and families.
  4. Assess community needs for future program development; coordinate and provide oversight for new program initiatives.
  5. Ensure the accuracy and timely submission of records and reports in applicable databases for specific area of responsibility.
  6. Maintain accurate, confidential and updated case records in accordance with The Salvation Army record keeping policies and procedures.
  7. Arrange workshops, lectures and training to individuals and families and community groups as needed.
  8. Represent The Salvation Army at community meetings as assigned and provide feedback and information helpful to the operation and service delivery of the Corps.
  9. Organize and operate food pantry intake, distribution and inventories.
  10. Assist with answering and routing calls as needed.
  11. Work in partnership with the divisional grants management team with research, writing or reporting.
  12. Assist with special events and implementation.
  13. Coordinate and implement seasonal assistance programs including but not limited to Angel Tree, Holiday Food Assistance, Back to School and Coats for Kids Distribution.
  14. Coordinate Hearty Helpings program including but not limited to volunteer recruitment, menus, vendor donations and food safety.
  15. Prepare and maintain social service statistical reports for timely submission.
  16. Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, trainings and individual supervision meetings as required.
  17. Recruit, manage and train volunteers for ongoing and seasonal efforts.
  18. Recruit school age children within the Toms River community to attend "sleep away" camp at Camp Tecumseh in Pittstown, New Jersey.
  19. Develop and work with program task forces/support committees in connection with the Ocean County Citadel Corps Advisory Board.
  20. Uphold the standards and principles ofThe Salvation Army's mission and ministry.
  21. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


  1. Bachelor's in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Human Services related field from an accredited institution required.
  2. At least 1 to 2 years of experience in advocacy, family support, youth ministry or counseling.
  3. Strong written and verbal-communication skills; highly organized.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of interactions between the individuals and families that are served.
  7. Awareness and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations served.
