    Position: Summer Day Camp Director            
    Location: Sunbury, PA Corps        
    Availability of Position: Summer Season May 25, 2020 – August 21, 2020
    Reporting Relationship: Corps Officer/Community Coordinator

    Supervises: Day Camp Counselors

    Schedule: Full-Time; 35 per week
    Salary and Grade: $10.50 per hour; 71 Non-Exempt

    Position Overview: The Day Camp Director is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the children in his/her group. They are responsible for ensuring payments are received, planning schedule is made, and that buses and meals are coordinated for trips. They will also ensure counselors are interacting in a positive manor with kids and that all incidents are properly reported.


    *Provide a safe, healthy, Christian environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality Children’s program.
    *Ensures children are aware of rules, and daily scheduled routines
    *Attend all staff meetings and The Salvation Army in-service training.
    *Assist in the planning and implementing of the daily activities that fit the children’s needs and interests.
    *Takes responsibility for the quality of the supplies, equipment and materials.
    *Report all suspicions of child abuse to camp director.
    *Make sure proper procedures are followed for sign-in/out of children on a daily basis.
    *Reports all accidents to the Supervisor, and completely fills out proper health log and/or accident/incident
    *Direct or assist in the daily maintenance of the childcare area, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
    *Ensure The Salvation Army Christian Values are evident in all activities.
    *Establish a relationship with each child and know his or her present level of understanding; consider the needs of all the children and treat each child with respect and dignity.
    *Work toward positive parent/staff relations.
    *Completes all paperwork clearly and concisely.
    *Reporting incidents to Office staff and ensuring incident reports are completed
    *Ensuring counselors arrive on time and complete time-sheets
    *Ensure counselors are interacting with kids and not mingling with one another
    *Create and provide summer schedule for day camp trips and activities
    *Ensure buses are scheduled for each trip
    *Ensure payments are monitored for each kids/ family and late payments more than a week are notified to the Office Staff.
    *Report any suspicious activity conducted by kids, or counselors to Office Staff


    * Degree or working toward a degree in Early Child Development, or similar field.

    * Valid PA Driver’s License

    * Experience working with children between the ages of 5 & 12.

    * Experience managing staff of, 3 or more.

    * As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every three years thereafter.  Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check. (Provided through department of Homeland Security)

    * Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
