  • Overview

    The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is seeking a Communications Specialist to manage the external and internal communications for the Center and to promote a positive public image and control the dissemination of information regarding The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center facility and mission.


    • Working with the Chief Operations Executive and other key staff to develop the Boston Kroc communications strategies.
    • Collaborate with the Graphic Design & Digital Media Specialist and Chief Operations Executive to develop communications and social media strategy
    • Work with Administrators, Chief Operations Executive, Corps Officers, managers and/or community Outreach Committee to assure community outreach strategy development, implementation and accountability.
    • Craft the internal and external communications plan related to membership experience, program offerings and center-wide priorities.
    • Collaborate with marketing professionals to produce copy for advertisements or articles with the goal of increasing membership sales revenue and revenue generated from the use of The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center by outside groups.
    • Manage the relationship between The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center and marketing consultants and vendors. Facilitate resolution of disputes with public or external vendors.
    • Collaborate with Divisional Headquarters Community Relations & Development Department on marketing-related items, media and public relations opportunities that support the marketing plan.
    • Draft content (e.g. press releases, newspaper articles) for mass media or Boston Kroc website, with oversight by DHQ Communications Department.
    • Foster relationships with advocates and key persons in the community.
    • Perform “damage control” in cases of bad publicity.
    • Assist in communication of strategies or messages from senior leadership.
    • Collaborate with Graphic Design & Digital Media Specialist to maintain current and relevant website and social media promotion in accordance with the marketing and communications plans.
    • Provide regular reporting to the Chief Operations Executive and The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center Administrators related to the marketing and communications plans, as required.
    • Assume Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities when scheduled (??).
    • Operate within Boston Kroc Center budget.
    • Represent the Salvation Army spiritual mission.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Operations Executive and Administrators.


    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or relevant field
    • Must have three to five years of progressive and responsible experience in communications.
    • Demonstrated success in sales or marketing of fitness, aquatic or other recreational or leisure facilities, preferred
    • Proven experience as a communications specialist or related position.
    • Must be well-versed in direct response mechanisms including direct marketing, digital campaigns and media campaigns.
    • Experience in web design and content production is a plus.
    • Experience in copywriting and editing.
    • Solid understanding of project management principles.
    • Must have excellent computer skills, professional knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and photo and video-editing software.
    • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign and/or similar design applications.
    • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
    • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
    • Outstanding organization and planning abilities.
    • Proficient command of English.
    • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
