    Position: 21st Century Program Tutor 

    Department: Philadelphia Temple Corps – The Learning Zone; 1340 Brown Street

    Availability of Position: Immediate (up to 5 positions available)

    Schedule: Part-time; 15 hours per week during the school year, 3-6 PM

    Reporting Relationship: Corps after-school Program Director and Temple Corps Officer

    Salary and Grade: $13.00 per hour; 74 Non-Exempt

     

    Responsibilities

    Serve neighborhood children as a Reading and Math tutor within The Salvation Army’s 21st Century Learning Center Programs.  The 21st Century tutor will use the After the Bell, Do the Math Decoding and Achieve Now curriculums.  Tutors must attend all trainings and be willing to learn other assigned curriculums, to develop and implement lessons.  Provide intense academic tutoring to assigned students, whether in a group or individually.  Be

    responsible for maintaining weekly student records, student notes/observations, updating daily tutor sheets, and providing progress reports to parents.

    Administer pre-assessment and on-going assessment tools and any other milestone testing deemed necessary.  Assist students with difficult homework/class assignments as necessary.  Meet with students, teachers and parents to develop specific achievement goals and the individual learning plan for each student.  Provide timely feedback to parents and provide positive reinforcement to students.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum requirement of high school diploma with 2 to 3 years of tutoring/teaching experience;
    • Bachelor’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in progress preferred. 
    • Experience working in neighborhoods and with community members. 
    • Good interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational and classroom management skills. 
    • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks:   PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Candidate must also complete the mandated reporter child abuse training in accordance with PA Act 153 of 2014. 
    • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
