    Location/Department: Marshall House Family Shelter (Hartford, CT)

    Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

    Hours Per Week: 22.5

    Schedule: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Friday - Sunday

     

    Will prepare and serve meals at the Marshall House Family Shelter, maintain accurate records and files, order/purchase food and other items, inventory and keep track of items delivered, store items, keep kitchen and storage areas clean and stocked, train employees and volunteers, respond to concerns, attend workshops and meetings, plan and implement menus, and ensure kitchen is in compliance with various regulations.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare and serve dinner daily and as scheduled according to menu. Food must be prepared using standardized recipes. The Shelter Director must approve all menu changes in advance.
    • Prepare and organize daily breakfast and snack meals to be served by family monitor staff. Ensure all ingredients and components are available and/or arrange for alternatives.
    • Maintain a file of standardized recipes for all foods prepared.
    • Receive all foods when delivered, check all deliveries for accuracy, and give food invoices to the Shelter Director.
    • Store all foods neatly upon delivery in the kitchen or storerooms.
    • Keep kitchen equipment and storage areas thoroughly clean and stocked in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Health Department.
    • Wash and put away all items (pots, pans, utensils, slicer, etc.) used to prepare the meals and wipe down the counters. Ensure that all food is handled and stored in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Health Department.
    • Maintain accurate records, which include the following: daily temp checks, in-kind donation form, and daily menu changes.
    • Promptly respond to concerns raised by Shelter Director related to the kitchen.
    • Ensure that the kitchen program is in compliance with Health Department.
    • Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as necessary to be informed of regulations and changes.
    • Must be able to work 5 hours per week. Weekends, evenings, and holidays required.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • High-school diploma
    • Two years cooking experience
    • Serve safe required
    • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
    • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
