  • Overview

    The Salvation Army EastView Residence is a new Independent Senior Living facility located in the East Harlem section of Manhattan, New York in which at least 80% of the 211 apartments/units are occupied by seniors ages 55 and older. The Salvation Army EastView Residence is not an Assisted Living Facility. Residents are provided with living accommodations in studio and one-bedroom units in a new modern building facility completed in 2019. In addition to living accommodations with security and concierge services, dinning services, weekly housekeeping and a variety of activities contribute to enjoying independent living. Residents must be able to dress and bathe themselves, do their own laundry and handle their medications. 


    • The Lifestyles/Activities Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all the activities conducted at the EastView Residence including overseeing the programs presented by outside staff and vendors. The Lifestyles/Activities Manager under the supervision of the Social/Residents Services Manager plans, implements and evaluates all activities with direct responsibility for scheduling performances and concerts from various musical and theater groups consistent with the interest of the senior population.
    • Plan and host quality social events including holiday special activities and develops a monthly Calendar of Events.
    • Coordinate all activities in accordance with Salvation Army policies.
    • Coordinate and plan all the weekly and special activities including concerts and Corps programs available to residents.
    • Recruit volunteers and individuals who will follow the mission of The Salvation Army EastView residence.
    • Encourage volunteer opportunities as well as involvement in programs, special activities and meetings conducted at the Manhattan Citadel Corps Community Center.
    • Sets a positive tone/atmosphere and team work with everyone involved in the programs conducted at EastView.
    • Provides leadership and oversight to all functions and activities conducted at EastView within the budgetary provisions available.
    • Provides leadership working with those assigned to promote a healthy lifestyle with a full schedule of weekly activities including those involving the Manhattan Citadel Corps Community Center.
    • Conducts arts and crafts and related classes promoting educational, fellowship and social interaction with residents.
    • Manages and secures instructors for aerobic classes and provides individuals who are qualified to give orientations for the proper use of the fitness center equipment.
    • Secures and processes approved Waiver of Liability form for the use of the fitness center.
    • Coordinates with management making sure that all the fitness equipment is properly serviced, cleaned and in working conditions.
    • Makes provision for the use of audio and video equipment for all scheduled meetings.
    • Process for approval all agreements with those who are performing or conducting activities at EastView including vouchers and payments with proper documentation as required by Salvation Army procedures.
    • Prepares and submits statistical information and various reports as required by the Salvation Army.
    • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by Salvation Army EastView administration.


    • An Associate degree in hospitality, event planning or related subject is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in planning and organizing events and activities.
    • A combination of experience planning and hosting social events promoting Healthy lifestyles and wellbeing for seniors ages 55 and older.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities.
    • Proven expertise in building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals.
    • Attention to detail with strong customer service skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals as well as meet deadlines.
    • Must possess strong work ethic, honesty and integrity.
    • Must have a passion for health and wellness, friendly, courteous, warm, compassionate and comfortable with the 55 and older population.
    • Must be excellent with conflict resolution and team building.
    • Must have proficiency in Word, Excel and in designing printed and digital material promoting weekly events and activities.
