  • Overview

    Ensure that physical needs of the individuals are met through our Social Services in areas such as: Emergency Assistance, home assistance, transportation, clothing, furnishing, food, seasonal assistance, referrals etc. Take a holistic approach in service.

    • Interview clients to assess needs and provide service from the food pantry, rental monies and for Neighbor 4 Neighbor services
    • Refer clients to other agencies (Food Stamps Social Services, HEAP, Clothing Closets)
    • Present clients with other Salvation Army ministries and corps schedule
    • Keep files for every client, keep both paper and computer information
    • Make appointments, if necessary, with clients for better time management
    • Maintain an orderly manner of stocking and rotating food on shelves
    • Place orders and arrange food pickup from the Food Bank of WNY, Tops, Aldi’s, and Budwey’s
    • Make sure food pantry is kept clean and orderly
    • Keep statistics for Salvation Army on a monthly basis
    • Keep statistics for TFAP and HPNAP
    • Keep records and appropriate receipts in order to report to Emergency Food and Shelter Funds (EFSF) in Niagara County
    • Fill out grant requests and annual applications for Food Bank of WNY programs
    • Prepare annual requests for EFSF (United Way of Niagara)
    • Keep records as funds are spent
    • Prepare the statistical portions of the United way Budget (for the UW of Tonawanda)
    • Participate, if necessary, in annual presentations
    • Back to School Program: take applications, purchase supplies and distribute backpacks
    • Thanksgiving: provide food for dinner and coordinate preparation and serving volunteers
    • Christmas: take applications for toy and basket program, provide food for baskets, input information in computer to avoid duplication
    • Coordinate angel tree tag hosts and adopt a family sponsors
    • Attend meetings with other agencies when required, such as: Food Bank of WNY, Tonawanda Food Providers, The Human Services Coalition, WNY Partnership, Food Drives, Notary Public, etc.
    • Pick up mail at Post Office
    • Prepare invoices and present to Corps Officer
    • Record all tangible donated items
    • Prepare Gifts-in-Kind report and present to Corps Officer
    • Email payroll information and employee sheets biweekly/keep record of attendance
    • Coordinate with Corps Officer for making weekly deposits at bank, especially during the Kettle Season
    • Attend to other duties assigned by the Corps Officer

    • High School or GED, 1-2 years work experience in social work or other Human Services field
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Strong organizational ability, problem solving ability, flexibility and ability to plan ahead and follow through
    • Supervisory skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently as well as with a team in high pressure situations
    • Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements
    • Ability to drive 12 passenger
