    REPORTS TO:            Housing and Shelter Manager

    SUPERVISES:             None

    STATUS:                      Intern/Temp            

    SCHEDULE:               15-25 hours per week for approximately 3 months


    FUNCTION:                To assist school aged residents with improving educational outcomes. The primary functions of the tutor are to (1) help students learn by reviewing content with them, explaining how to solve problems and checking completed work,  (2) help students develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance- this may be done in a one-on-one or group setting, and  (3) to evaluate the impact of the intervention on the student grades.


    • Support students in emergency shelter(s) through tutoring
    • Provide innovative learning solutions and creative learning activities for the students, where relevant
    • Participate in other service programming, as needed.
    • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor.


      • High School Diploma.  Some college experience preferred.
      • Experience working with children of different backgrounds and life experiences.
      • Successfully obtain and maintain driving privileges per The Salvation Army insurance standards, including maintaining access to a personal vehicle and insurance coverage for transportation needs related to this position. Mileage reimbursement will be utilized where appropriate.  
    • Willingness to uphold and support The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.
