    Location/Department: Waterbury Family Shelter (Waterbury, CT)

    Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time or On-Call


    Provides daily supervision, reporting, and support services to clients in a low barrier residential facility that promotes a Housing First philosophy. Facilitate an emotional and physical environment conducive to enhancing positive client morale and stabilization by ensuring the security and safety of the facility, maintaining appropriate records in addition to ongoing written and verbal communication with the supervisor in relationship to daily client activities, and support and encourage clients in achieving goals outlined in their housing plans.


    • Advocate for the mission of the organization and uphold the agency’s values.
    • Serve as the first point of contact to triage requests for emergency shelter.
    • Use shelter diversion techniques to assist households in self-resolving their housing crisis throughout their stay.
    • Prepare and complete intake packages for households unable to be diverted at entrance.
    • Prepare rooms for clients and facilitate sleeping arrangements and storage of personal items (including medications).
    • Review policies and guidelines with clients at time of entrance.
    • Ensure clients are complying with program guidelines and procedures.
    • Deliver services with safety, respect, and effectiveness.Utilize Harm Reduction model and Trauma Informed approach during delivery of services.
    • Assess client needs and offer assistance in housing and other goals outlined in the household’s housing plan.Follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
    • Maintain order and assist in keeping all assigned areas clean and free of spills, trash, and safety hazards.
    • Perform daily meal and occupancy counts.
    • Perform daily safety checks in order to assess safety concerns and get updated status of household.Receive and put away donations.
    • Assist in meal preparation, room cleanings, and house laundry.
    • Complete all agency logs and incident reports in a timely manner.
    • Provide immediate and professional response to any security/safety emergency or disturbance within or immediately outside facility.
    • Complete discharge procedures each day, as needed.
    • Provide coverage for the facility by monitoring the doors and answering the phone.
    • Report to all scheduled shifts on time. Make arrangements for coverage if unable to report to work and follow call out procedures outlined by supervisor.
    • Remain at work until relieved by another staff member (not to exceed 16 hours).
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, Housing Specialist, or Director.

    • Fluency in the English language is required. Spanish speaking ability preferred.
    • High School Diploma/GED required.
    • Must be able to work holidays.
    • Experience working with at-risk populations and/or person experiencing homelessness preferred.
    • Attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
    • Knowledge and belief in “Housing First” philosophy and strategies.
    • Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of population served.
    • Commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems.
    • Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
    • Ability to establish and set appropriate limits with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel, service providers, and professionals.
    • Capacity to maintain a role to empower clients and to intervene appropriately to meet service goals.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and must work well under pressure.
    • Committed to working with the homeless population.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment.
    • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Must be empathetic and caring.
