  • Overview

    The Manager of Web and Graphic Design will play a key role in contributing creative design for high level print and online marketing strategies for The Salvation Army’s communications initiatives across the Division. The goal is to raise the Brand of The Salvation Army in “telling our story” through the various means of print, digital and social media across a wide spectrum of viewers.

     

    Primary areas of focus are in website management and graphic design and being able to manage the creative process through to print production and distribution.

    This position is responsible for providing a fresh, creative story for the Northeast Ohio Salvation Army website as well providing technical assistance/support to websites housed in various corps throughout the Division. 

     

     

    The MWGD will occasionally travel to Army locations/events to capture relevant photos or video to communicate the story. 

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

     

    GRAPHIC DESIGN

     

    1. Provide graphic design and/or support to staff and Officers for electronic and print formats.
    2. Design and create marketing and presentation materials, such as annual reports, brochures, forms, ads, PowerPoint presentations, displays; or assist staff and Officers in the same.
    3. Communicate with printing companies to inquire about quotes, place orders and ensure all files are compatible and print-ready.
    4. Design new logos for various programs and or events.
    5. Create and resize ads to meet media outlets varying dimensions.

     

     

    WEB SITE MAINTANENCE

    1. Revise provided web content for clarity, grammar, accuracy, and format compliance.
    2. Refresh and update content as necessary
    3. Design user-friendly content in a format that will engage users with timely stories and news updates
    4. Create and implement strategy for collecting images for inclusion on web pages and in creative materials
    5. Provide graphics and/or support to staff and officers
    6. Provide progress reports including traffic statistics and social media statistics

     

    SOCIAL MEDIA

    1. Create a comprehensive social media strategy to increase visibility, membership and traffic to the website.
    2. Design user-friendly content in a format that will engage users with timely stories and news updates.
    3. Monitor trends and appropriately apply initiatives to leverage the use of social media.
    4. Participate in conversations that surround Salvation Army content and brand.
    5. Help create and upload content for the various corps sites in the Division.
    6. Post photos of fundraising and public awareness events on the same day.
    7. Conduct keyword research including cataloging and indexing target keyword phrases.
    8. Create and update traffic and effort reports as necessary.
    9. Evaluate and summarize findings and communicate to the appropriate personnel.
    10. Translate data into recommendations and plans for revising social media campaigns.

     

     

    ONLINE FUNDRAISING

     

    1. Work with mail vendor on the design and implementation of all online fundraising efforts including e-newsletters, e-mail blasts, microsites, banner ads, event promotions, etc.
    2. Ability to work within Classy and other online applications to create donation pages, event registration sites, e-blasts and online surveys for divisional events.
    3. Create monthly overview reports on all online campaigns.
    4. Create queries to quickly sort and filter desired donation records and/or registrations.
    5. Direct oversight of Peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns and train others to implement it.

     

    PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO

    1. Retrieve, store and post photos of fundraising and public awareness events with the appropriate media.
    2. Shoot video footage on and off-site. Collect video footage and edit/create video presentations for different events and meetings. Create animated advertisement banners for outside website use.
    3. Take photographs and video at divisional events.
    4. Create Powerpoint presentations.
    5. Locate appropriate imagery when necessary from existing records or stock photo.

     

     

    MANAGEMENT OF CREATIVE ASSETS

     

    1. Create and maintain a detailed archive and electronic filing system for photography, fonts, logos, past projects, current projects, design resources and 3rd party websites (Drop-box, Flickr, Facebook, Classy & photo consent database)

     

     

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Attend fundraising and public awareness events as assigned by the DDCR. Assist in set-up and tear down of displays at events.

    OTHER DUTIES – Assume other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Development and Community Relations and/or the General Secretary

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

    1. Bachelors Degree
    2. 3-5 years graphic design, online marketing, website design, and fundraising experience.

     

     SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 

    1. Must have an understanding of, and appreciation for, the mission of The Salvation Army.
    2. HTML and CSS are essential and required.
    3. Knowledge and/or understanding of search engine optimization.
    4. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver, and web graphics.
    5. Knowledge of Java Script would be a plus.
    6. Understanding of 'WYSIWYG' coding principal
    7. Exceptional writing and editing skills.
    8. Image Capture (or equivalent program to transfer photos to computer)
    9. Fetch (or equivalent FTP software to upload and download files to server)
    10. Responsive design for mobile platforms
    11. Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization.
    12. Ability to create project timelines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    13. Collaborative and energetic team player.
    14. Experience in e-mail marketing.
    15. Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals as well as meet
    16. Effective interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities.
    17. Proven expertise in building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals.
    18. Proven photography, videography and graphic design experience.
