    Location/Department: GHAS, Marshall House Hartford No Freeze Program (Hartford)

    Status: 21 hours, Non-Exempt, Part Time, temporary

    Schedule: Sunday- Saturday 7:00 am – 10:00 am


    Scope & Purpose of Position:

    The develop a system whereby the City of Hartford property would be maintained in good condition during its use as Hartford No Freeze program.


    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

    • Complete required 12 passenger van training and maintain all appropriate knowledge to drive and maintain this vehicle.
    • Attend to specialized cleaning needs to ensure facility is visually appealing to the residents and the public.
    • Ensure public restrooms are cleaning and stocked with toiletries.
    • In the event of a need for major repairs, inform the Program Coordinator and/or Program Director to advise the City of Hartford of facility issue(s).
    • Check Log Book for all maintenance and/or cleaning needs daily.
    • Check to see if all smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and fire doors throughout the entire building are in operable working condition
    • Maintain the upkeep of the outside grounds weekly to include:
      • Remove snow from sidewalks and stairs, and applying de-icing materials as needed,
      • Collect and discard trash and debris.
    • Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of storage area, thus eliminating any fire hazardous conditions.
    • Work with Program Coordinator regarding food/donation pick up as needed.
    • Assist with laundry as needed.
    • Attend monthly combined shelter staff meetings/trainings.

    • High School Diploma.
    • Minimum two years of experience in coordinating and performing building maintenance.
    • Experience in painting, plastering, minor plumbing, minor carpentry, and minor electrical work required.
    • Must possess the necessary tools and knowledge of their use to perform everyday maintenance functions.
    • Evidence of dependability, self-security, and good judgment.
    • Ability to relate with persons of various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
    • A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with no fault of insurance.
    • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
