    Status: Non-Exempt, Temporary

     

    Scope & Purpose of Position:

    Provides daily supervision, monitoring, reporting, and technical support services to clients accessing no freeze programs; maintains appropriate records in addition to ongoing written and verbal communication with the supervisor in relationship to daily client activities; facilitates an emotional and physical environment conducive to enhancing positive client morale and stabilization.

    Responsibilities

    • Screen prospective residents for possible admission following Greater Hartford CAN cold weather protocol.
    • Authorize and complete requests for hotel stays per Marshall House and GH CAN cold weather protocol.
    • Contact area shelters to transfer clients from No Freeze program to a more stable shelter placement. Complete discharge procedure each day, including;
      • collect & wash linens,
      • make a discharge entry in the log book
      • obtain a forwarding address if possible, and
      • complete Exiting Procedure and Exit Form to obtain guest’s destination.
    • Complete intakes on households unable to be diverted/triaged to other shelters, including;
      • review rules and obtain signature
      • completely fill out intake packet including release of information
      • familiarize clients with resources being offered including onsite Case Manager
    • Assist with routine personal hygiene as needed (i.e. provide toiletries and instruct in their proper use).
    • During shift changes, brief staff on client issues or concerns.
    • Provide coverage for the facility by monitoring the doors and answering the phone, including:
      • review all client and guest photo identification upon entry into the building at all times,
      • control the flow of traffic into and out of the building by ensuring all clients and visitors sign in and sign out in the log book, and
      • field calls for assistance and shelter triage
    • Ensure there is always a 1:25 ratio for staff to adult residents. Staff must stay on duty until coverage arrives.
    • Perform all required shift tasks before the completion of each shift.
    • Keep staff area stocked with copies of all appropriate forms.
    • Explain and enforce No Freeze program rules with residents by reviewing Warming Center Guest Expectations at intake and through consistent accountability of behavior and process monitoring, including:
      • Document interactions with guests regarding expectations and follow procedures regarding guests’ stays when expectations are not followed.
    • Alert the Program Coordinator of any concerns regarding parent/child interactions.
    • Report to all scheduled shifts on time and ready to perform duties. Make arrangements for coverage if unable to report to work and follow call off procedures outlined by Supervisor.
    • Assist in preparing meals/food for No Freeze program participants
    • Properly dispose of left over meals at the end of each shift.
    • Collect dirty linen in designated area to be laundered. Assist with laundry when needed.
    • Provide Crisis Intervention and the necessary support and resources to residents when situations arise (i.e. police, Mobil Crisis, drug treatment programs, medical or fire emergencies).
    • Store, provide, and make available resident’s medication when necessary.
    • Provide a supportive, encouraging environment and one-on-one support to residents.
    • Document all referrals refused by the clients and complete regular, on-going entries in the log book. Complete incident reports as needed provided a copy to the Program Coordinator, Case Manager and Incident book.
    • In the event of a medical emergency or where an accident occurs on property, Intake Workers must call 911, arrange for medical attention, and completely document occurrence with an incident report.
    • Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
    • Maintain donations as instructed by the supervisor and store and distribute supplies to clients as needed. Obtain client signatures for all distributed donations.
    • Conduct security checks in and around the premises to ensure everyone’s safety. Log all security and fire checks on an hourly basis to maintain order in the facility.

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma or GED required
    • Experience working with at-risk populations and/or persons experiencing homelessness preferred
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Must have a minimum availability of three shifts weekly
    • Willing to work weekends, evenings (including overnights), and holidays is required.
