  • Overview

    The job’s primary purpose is to coordinate, supervise, and implement all youth programs for children, youth, and young adults offered by the Homewood Salvation Army.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Coordinate and give oversight to all Homewood/Brushton Corps youth programs (sunbeams, adventures, corps cadets, tambourine, sacred dance, singing, drama, sport activities, etc.)
    • Coordinate the Afterschool program (including serving the food)
    • Coordinate the Summer Day Camp
    • Coordinate Vacation Bible School
    • Do pick up and drop off for the kids’ program as directed by the Corps Officers
    • Assist the social worker with the summer Allegheny Camps (including taking kids to camp)
    • Help in project bundle up (shopping trips, toys distribution, etc.)
    • Coordinate and be involved in Sundays’ school program and junior church.
    • Maintain a linkage between the community youth and the corps youth ministry and worship;
    • Serve on call as appropriate and as needed
    • Support other Homewood/Brushton Corps activities as needed and as directed by the Corps Officers.
    • Encourage participation and taking part in kids’ divisional activities.
    • Maintain proper receipts and accounting procedures for any Salvation Army expenses as required by The Salvation Army accounting guides.
    • Maintain proper statistics for all activities and human services provided.
    • Keep regular office hours for preparation of programs and activities.
    • Make certain that all Salvation Army owned/rented property and equipment is maintained and kept in good order seeing that areas are kept neat, clear of clutter and clean.
    • Responsible for safety and well-being of participants in programs and will not leave any minors unsupervised at any time.

     

    Additional Responsibilities:

     

    • Maintain sound fiscal policies in programs.
    • Recruit and supervise volunteers in assisting in all areas of youth and young adult ministry.
    • Maintain sound public relations.
    • Maintain good stewardship practices in care of equipment, facilities, and grounds.
    • Maintain all related inventories and statistical records in a professional manner.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

    • A passion for outreach to unchurched children, youth and young adults;
    • Be able to drive a 12 passenger van
    • A sensitivity to disadvantaged youth;
    • Must be able to plan, organize, and implement quality children’s programs.
    • Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Be in agreement with the Salvation Army International and Homewood/Brushton Corps mission statements; and
    • Be willing to adhere to Salvation Army employment practices.
    • Must possess management, organizational and creativity skills.
    • Must possess basic office skills including use of computer.
    • All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
    • PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.

     

    Education and Experience:

     

    • A minimum of an associate’s degree, or work related experience;
    • Previous experience in youth work;
    • A valid Driver’s license;
    • A general knowledge of computers and basic software applications;
