  • Overview

    Under the direction of the corps officer, the maintenance supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of employees in the general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment of the Bushwick Corps. The maintenance supervisor is also responsible for maintaining electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems within the Bushwick Corps property and building.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervises and assigns the work of maintenance employees and volunteers.
    • General maintenance of all Salvation Army property including parking lot areas; General building upkeep.
    • Receiving of all deliveries and ensuring that they are securely packed and covered in storage room.
    • Ability to perform various clean-up and maintenance tasks as needed;
    • Perform minor repairs such as ceiling, tile changing, stopping of leaks wherever required, etc.
    • Clean and maintain in front of building by keeping area free of garbage and clean at all times.
    • Ability to update inventories and other supplies as needed as per approved by the corps officer.
    • Coordinates or installs, inspects, repairs and maintains the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems in all health department locations.
    • Ability to inspect, operate and maintain the heating, cooling and ventilation system and the boiler system.
    • Ability to install, inspect, repair and maintain the electrical, plumbing and other related systems of all with in all department locations as per approved by the corps officer.
    • Does general repairs such as painting, patching walls, security hardware, hanging shelves and landscaping.
    • Coordinates renovations of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities.
    • Cafeteria:  Empty, wash, and disinfect garbage bins, sweep & mop floor; wipe down and sanitize tables and chairs
    • Outside of Building Sweep, and keep clear of litter and trash, glass, etc.; Remove snow and ice, when necessary. Hose down front entrances when weather permits
    • Chapel: (Monday and Friday) Very important that this be kept in tip top shape: Vacuum carpet; Dust chairs, altar, piano, etc. (use polish as needed); Arrange books & bookshelves neatly.
    • Computer Room: Wipe and sanitize computer tables, sofas and chairs; Wipe down bookshelves; Vacuum/Mop floors in offices; Empty trash; Spot check and wipe walls. 
    • Wash/Wipe light domes or bulbs, as needed
    • Wash and disinfect mop heads (hang to dry spreading strand); Change water frequently
    • Clean up utility rooms and closets; sweep and hose down boiler room; Wash windows and blinds as needed (inside & outside); Wash baseboards periodically
    • Strip floors and wax, as needed; Buff floors on a quarterly basis
    • Treatment of gymnasium and chapel floors as needed
    • Be willing to assist with outside agencies use of facilities
    • Perform other tasks as per administrator’s specific instructions, to maintain a healthy, sanitary, hazard free environment in the Corps Community Center.
    • Wash and disinfect all bathrooms (bowls, walls, stall doors, sinks, basins, floors, fixtures)
    • Sweep halls, offices, gym.  Empty and return waste baskets
    • Wash slop sinks; Replace light bulbs when necessary
    • Check all doors and windows and dust around and in all aforementioned areas
    • Vacuum carpeted rooms daily
    • Mop hallways, Waiting areas, Lounges, Craft Room, Cafeteria, Gym, etc.
    • Move furniture, reset and clean areas necessary
    • Dispose of trash daily.
    • Adhere to the Maintenance Schedule

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma
    • Two (s) or more years’ in experience in general maintenance or other maintenance responsibilities that would include the ability to recognize electrical, plumbing, and mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures.
    • Training beyond high school level in general maintenance and repair or closely related area.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.
