    Will maintain the safety and cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the buildings; conduct general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and grounds; and complete driving duties as needed.

    • Complete janitorial duties (clean bathrooms, mop floors, remove trash, vacuum work areas, dust, sanitize, etc.).
    • Attend to specialized cleaning needs (i.e. removing gum, clearing cobwebs, and spot cleaning carpets) to ensure facility is visually appealing.
    • Assist with seasonal maintenance (mow grass, remove snow, rake leaves, cut brush, etc.).
    • Replace bathroom paper products and soap as needed.
    • Replenish other supplies throughout the facilities (copy paper, lunch room supplies, etc.).
    • Assist with the cleanliness and upkeep of storage areas, thus eliminating any fire hazardous conditions.
    • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance as needed or requested.
    • Troubleshoot and complete minor miscellaneous repairs.
    • Update work logs and include annotation for specific maintenance schedules on equipment.
    • Maintain vacuum cleaners in operable condition.
    • Replace light bulbs as needed.
    • Hang bulletin boards, pictures, etc. as requested by supervisor.
    • Repair all broken furnishings and sand and paint furniture as needed.
    • Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed.
    • Report to superiors any emergencies as they arise.
    • Complete required 12 passenger van training and maintain all appropriate knowledge to drive and maintain this vehicle.
    • Assist with incoming and outgoing mail deliveries.
    • Operate The Salvation Army vehicle for pick-up and delivery duties as needed.
    • Support annual kettle effort with driving as scheduled by supervisors.
    • Prepare sites for special events/trainings (set up and take down furniture and equipment).
    • Assist with on-site deliveries.
    • Assist with the coordination and supervision of volunteer groups involved with maintenance projects.
    • Attend staff meetings/trainings, as required.
    • Obtain thorough knowledge of all emergency cut-offs (water, gas, electrical, clean out traps, fire extinguishers, and fire hydrants).
    • Report unsafe working/living conditions to supervisor.
    • Maintain positive relations with other staff members, suppliers, vendors, and professionals.
    • Be available outside of scheduled working hours for snow removal and to respond to mechanical emergencies.

    • High school diploma or GED and two to three years related experience and/or training required.
    • Must possess the necessary tools and knowledge of their use to perform everyday maintenance functions.
    • Evidence of dependability, self-security, and good judgment.
    • Ability to relate with persons of various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
    • A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
    • Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to drive a 12-passenger van and pass required Salvation Army driving test
    • Must be available some evening and weekend hours.
    • Must have a sense of responsibility and be able to work independently.
    • Knowledge of methods used in all manners of building maintenance, including basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, grounds keeping, and minor appliance repair
    • Must observe safety standards and procedures related to the building.
    • Basic math skills are necessary.
    • Must be a highly-motivated self-starter.
    • Experience supervising volunteers preferred.
    • Must be organized and have a high attention to detail.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Able to solve practical problems in a variety of situations.
    • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
