    Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time & On-Call


    Scope & Purpose of Position:

    Provides daily supervision, monitoring, reporting, and technical support services to clients in a residential facility; maintains appropriate records in addition to ongoing written and verbal communication with the supervisor in relationship to daily client activities; facilitates an emotional and physical environment conducive to enhancing positive client morale and stabilization.


    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Screen prospective residents on the Shelter Priority List for possible admission. For individuals and families seeking emergency shelter that are not on the Shelter Priority list, refer to 211.
    • Complete intakes on new admissions, including;
      • review rules and obtain signature,
      • completely fill out intake form,
      • assign linens and room,
      • give the resident a tour of the Family Shelter,
      • familiarize resident with meal schedule and laundry and chore policies, and
      • schedule a follow up appointment with the Family Services Case manager if needed.
    • Complete discharge procedure each day, including;
      • Collect and wash linens,
      • check room for theft or damages,
      • make a discharge entry in the log book,
      • obtain a forwarding address if possible, and
      • complete Exiting Procedure and Exit Form to obtain resident’s destination.
    • Assist with routine personal hygiene as needed (i.e. provide toiletries and instruct in their proper use).
    • During shift changes, brief staff on residents’ issues or concerns.
    • Provide coverage for the facility by monitoring the doors and answering the phone, including:
      • review all resident and guest photo identification upon entry into the building at all times,
      • control the flow of traffic into and out of the shelter by ensuring all residents and visitors sign in and sign out in the log book, and
      • field calls for assistance and shelter availability.
    • Ensure there is always a 1:25 ratio for staff to residents.
    • Perform all required shift tasks before the completion of each shift.
    • Keep family intake office stocked with copies of all appropriate forms.
    • Explain and enforce Shelter rules with residents by reviewing Resident Rules and Responsibilities at intake and through consistent accountability of behavior and process monitoring, including:
      • administer write ups for all behavior not in accordance to the policy and rules for the Shelter and
      • provide a copy of all warnings administered to the Family Services Case Manager and the warning logbook.
    • Alert the Family Services Caseworker of any concerns regarding parent/child interactions.
    • Report to all scheduled shifts on time and ready to perform duties. Make arrangements for coverage if unable to report to work and follow call out procedures outlined by supervisor.
    • Prepare breakfast and check off list of diners per CACFP regulations.
    • Monitor and ensure after meal cleanup through resident chores.
    • Properly dispose of left over meals at the end of the day.
    • Check kitchen and empty resident rooms for dirty linens. Complete house and kitchen laundry during third shift.
    • Ensure that each resident common area is clean and tidy daily by monitoring the completion of resident chores for those areas. When and where needed, assist with cleaning those spaces which are the dining room, theater room, tiny tots room, community lounge, and library.
    • Provide Crisis Intervention and the necessary support and resources to residents when situations arise (i.e. police, Mobil Crisis, drug treatment programs, medical or fire emergencies).
    • Store, provide, and make available resident’s medication when necessary.
    • Provide a supportive, encouraging environment and one-on-one support to residents.
    • Document all referrals refused by clients and complete regular, on-going entries in the log book.
    • Complete incident reports as needed and provide copies to the Family Services Case Manager and Incident Logbook.
    • In the event of a medical emergency or where an accident occurs on property; call 911, arrange for medical attention, and completely document occurrence with an incident report.
    • Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
    • Maintain donations as instructed by the supervisor and store and distribute supplies to residents as needed. Obtain resident signatures for all distributed donations.
    • Conduct security checks in and around the premises to ensure everyone’s safety. Log all security and fire checks on an hourly basis to maintain order in the facility.

    • High School diploma or GED required
    • Experience working with at-risk populations and/or persons experiencing homelessness preferred
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Must have a minimum availability of three shifts weekly
    • Willing to work weekends, evenings (including overnights), and holidays is required. During major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s) scheduling will be completed based on a seniority sign up system shared among all direct care staff
