    Position:   Case Worker         

    Department: Reading, PA                            

    Availability of Position: Immediate

    Schedule: Part-Time, 27 hours / week as scheduled (Monday-Friday)

    Salary and Grade: $12.00 per hour; 72 Non-Exempt

    Caseworker will handle all aspects of Social Service casework as assigned.

    • Provide explanation of all required documentation for appointments and program eligibility
    • Interview clients following established procedures to determine eligibility for programs.
    • Complete thorough intake assessment of each participant appropriately
    • Schedule appointments as appropriate
    • Update files for each program participant
    • Obtain and copy documentation required by each program. Maintain accurate filing of the same.
    • Use computer to complete the prescreening and application process for each utility program
    • Make appropriate referrals to community resources
    • Maintain accurate records in the Social Service and other databases as needed for accurate statistical and billing purposes
    • Assist in the distribution of food, clothing or other donated items as appropriate
    • Assist in Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance programs as assigned
    • Answer phones and direct calls as necessary
    • Fill in at reception desk as needed
    • Coordinate with other staff members as needed
    • Performs all other related duties as assigned


    Must be bilingual, Spanish - English, in both verbal and written communication to best serve the community.  Computer proficiency with various software programs such as MS Office and internet based programs. Must have good communication skills and excellent customer service.  Must have the ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment. 

    Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks:  PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
