  • Overview

    The Salvation Army is hiring! We are seeking individuals with a passion for helping others, and a desire to do the most good in their own community. We have a terrific new opportunity for a full time Grant Writer within our Divisional Headquarters Development team. This individual will be a key member of the development team working in close partnership with Salvation Army officers and team peers. esponsible for division-wide grants management, providing writing, editing, and reporting support to Salvation Army units and development staff.  Prospect screening; researching potential sources of funding; conducting information searches to support fundraising initiatives and creates and manages systems for tracking the Army’s relationships with all of its grant and foundation funders. He or she will build and develop effective working relationships between the development team, Corps Officers and other departments within the organization.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Research of private support and identification of possible individual, corporate and foundation funding sources.
    • Work with corps and appropriate finance team member to prepare and submit proposals and reports to funders.
    • Participate in a multidisciplinary team to ensure award agreements are executed for programs and accounting
    • Develop and manage a division-wide recording, tracking, and reporting system to increase funding resources and grant compliance. In conjunction with Director of Community Engagement and the Grants & Contracts Administrator, manage all submissions and grant activity throughout the division.
    • Work with the Director of Community Engagement to secure funding for special projects and execute capital campaigns.
    • Assure timely acknowledgement and receipt of contributions, accurate accounting of donor records, and prepare reports as required.
    • Work with Salvation Army Officers and managers to cultivate relationships, develop and maintain program descriptions and budgets, and track program outcomes.

     

    Research and Cultivation

    • Acts as the organization’s clearinghouse for grant requests to ensure no duplication of proposals occurs.
    • Coordinate grant requests to foundations serving multiple locations.
    • Monitors foundation, corporation, federal, state and local websites and other sources for RFP announcements. Informs staff of relevant RFP’s.
    • Identifies and researches availability of private funds, in response to program needs and as anticipated by development staff.
    • Pro-actively researches new sources of private revenues.

     

    Proposal Development

    • Assimilates and compiles complex information from multiple sources into a comprehensive and accessible format.
    • Monitors all RFP application activities, including planning, document gathering, internal and external communications and final submissions.
    • As assigned, prepares proposals on behalf of corps and units in the division. Review of proposals and budgets, and final production ensuring relevant attachments are included. Supports and assists corps and development team in developing, editing and packaging proposals for submission to foundations, corporations, individuals, and other funders

     

    Reporting Requirements

    • Maintain a comprehensive, detailed, continuously updated tracking system clearly setting forth the status of all current, pending and potential granting sources, with particular attention to meeting all internal and external deadlines.
    • Assists in the design of oversight mechanisms that monitor, analyze performance and ensure grant compliance if needed.
    • Manage and maintain donor records, team portfolios.
    • Ensures all contract and grant files are updated and accurate.

    Qualifications

     

    • A Bachelor’s Degree with relevant advanced training or degree
    • Effective interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a complex environment, managing multiple projects and conflicting priorities.
    • A communications and management style that exhibits the principles and values of The Army, as well as fosters team relationships and effectively communicates information.
    • Advanced understanding of resource development and communications systems and programs and the professional knowledge to achieve department objectives.
    • Advanced understanding of resource development systems and the professional knowledge necessary to achieve department objectives.
    • Willingness to travel as needed within the Empire Division.
    • A proficiency in Word and Excel, as well as experience with donor tracking and/or database software is preferred. 
    • A strong commitment to know and understand The Army’s history, mission, and structure, as well as its services, policies and procedures.
