  • Overview

    The Salvation Army (TSA), an internationally recognized faith based non-profit organization has an

    opening for a Full-time Estates Specialist in the Legal Department. This position functions as the department

    receptionist and the secretary to the Assistant Legal Secretary. The position reports to the Supervisor of Estate Processing.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Greet visitors entering the Legal Department, answer questions or provide direction.
    • Answer Assistant Legal Secretary’s telephone and relay messages when necessary.
    • Oversee the retrieving of incoming mail and the processing of outgoing mail.
    • Prepare correspondence as directed by the Assistant Legal Secretary and Estates Supervisor.
    • Establish all new legacy cases through the preparation of initial correspondence with inclusion of documents when necessary.
    • Prepare for signature correspondence relating to existing legacy cases; and acknowledging receipt of legacy distributions.
    • Prepare legacy files for closure and scanning and prepare active legacy files for scanning.
    • Obtain closed file information as needed from Document Management and archives.
    • Update information in 3rd Party Trust tab in Estates Database.
    • Assist Document Specialist with review of bank statements when necessary.
    • Assist the Legal Secretary and Assistant Legal Secretary as requested to maintain the smooth flow of information both within and without the Legal Department

    Qualifications

    • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must be or are willing to be appointed as a New York State Notary Public.
    • Excellent grammar and writing skills.
    • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Position requires a professional demeanor when dealing with the public and an ability to work semi-independently.
