  • Overview

    The Salvation Army (TSA), an internationally recognized faith based non-profit organization has an opening for a full-time Editor of a new Hispanic Publication.  The successful individual will assist in the management of day to day operations with a focus on editing a quarterly Hispanic magazine. This will include planning issues with the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the Hispanic Ministries Director and participating on the Hispanic Ministries committee; conducting interviews for stories; writing stories and reviews; editing news releases and articles submitted by field correspondents and by other writers; working with the Art Director and Staff Designer(s) to select artwork and oversee the layout process; checking page proofs and printer proofs; and responding to inquiries and suggestions from territorial leadership.

    The individual in this position will need to possess a high degree of cultural sensitivity and linguistic ability to give appropriate direction to the development and maintenance of the publication. The Editor will have his or her finger on the pulse of the Hispanic community so as to provide relevant content.

    This position will report to the Communications Secretary and the Editor-in-Chief.


    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Write articles that are grammatically correct, factually accurate, and culturally appropriate for publication, adhering to Salvation Army and Associated Press Style guidelines.
    • Translate articles (English/Spanish) as needed. Work with the Translation Bureau in the Mission & Culture Department as needed on articles and stories to be processed for print and online.
    • Work with the Staff Photographer to arrange photo assignments; provide editorial direction
    • Assist the Social Media Director in providing stories for posting online ( and on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Assist the Media Director when needed to provide stories and images for inclusion in video projects or during live events.
    • Complete occasional writing assignments for territorial leadership and for other publications.
    • Participate in selecting field correspondents who will work either as volunteers or freelancers.
    • Occasional travel based on assignments. 
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four year college or university and three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Fluent in Spanish and English. Ability to write/edit in Spanish and English. 
    • Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Must be a Christian; Salvationist preferred.
    • Must have a Valid Driver’s License, and ability to travel as needed.
    • Strong computer skills.
