  • Overview

    To provide ongoing support and expertise through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and overall evaluation of individual client social service needs.  The overall goal of the position is to help clients determine the best strategy to improve their current life circumstances using available resources if necessary to help them overcome their current obstacles.

     

    Interview, assess, collect client data, collaborate with Corps Ministry Team and community partners and formulate a plan of action appropriate to move the client families from crisis to stability.  Must be able to work with clients who are involved with other social service systems, mental health, and adults in crisis.

    Responsibilities

    • Work as a team with Corps Officers to encourage clients to participate in the holistic program of The Salvation Army.
    • In conjunction with the Officers, develop programs to meet community needs identified by Timothy Group and other sources. This would include (but not excluded to) Organize networking among Community Social Service agencies, classes in literacy for both adults and children, other support/education groups as deemed necessary by current needs.
    • Processing of forms, i.e., recording and maintaining client files according to Salvation Army standards
    • Attend Staff Meeting and service provider agency meetings as requested.
    • Conduct presentations about The Salvation Army Social Services to the public at service clubs, religious groups, etc.
    • Network with service provider agencies, particularly as concerns duplication of Services.
    • Coordinate and implement seasonal projects: Dollar Energy, Bundle-Up, Thanksgiving Assistance, Christmas Assistance, Camp Allegheny, Adopt-A-Family, Sheetz Family Christmas, etc.
    • Processing paperwork and hours for volunteers and assigning volunteers to a work station.
    • Coordination with Probation Department for community service workers and processing all paperwork and hours accordingly.
    • Reports directly to the Pathway of Hope Regional Coordinator, the Divisional Social Services Director, and Corps Officers.
    • Must be conversant in all Pathway of Hope methodology.
    • Work as a team member with your Corps Ministry Team to select viable client families to participate in Pathway of Hope.
    • Work closely with your Corps Ministry Team to form an interdisciplinary team to empower family clients to move from crisis to stability.
    • Work closely with your Corps Ministry Team to encourage client families to participate in the holistic program of The Salvation Army.
    • Processing of Pathway of Hope forms, i.e., recording and maintaining client files according to Salvation Army standards.
    • Must familiarize self with community resources and existing, as well as potential collaborative partners.
    • Attend Social Service Department Meetings and Pathway of Hope Meetings as requested by Divisional Social Services Director or Pathway of Hope Regional Coordinator.
    • Network with service provider agencies.
    • Conduct research into community organizations and businesses for possible Social Services partnership and volunteers; create and maintain these partnerships.
    • Salvation Army policies pertaining to confidentiality, release of information, and retention and/or destruction of records must be strictly adhered to. If client files are subpoenaed, the Corps Officer and Pathway of Hope Regional Coordinator will be notified immediately. The Corps Officer will notify the General Secretary who will decide how to proceed. Files are not to be released except on instruction by the General Secretary.
    • Maintaining all statistical reports as pertains to Pathway of Hope. Submit monthly statistics to Regional Coordinator in a timely manner.

     

    It is understood that the Case Worker may, when appropriate, delegate the following tasks to volunteers.

    • Processing forms and maintaining files.
    • Stocking food in Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen
    • Packing and distribution food bags.

    Qualifications

    • Excellent counseling and listening skills
    • Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize accordingly.
    • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with team members, clients, and agencies.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications.
    • Flexibility and good organizational skills.
    • Must have ability to adapt to various work locations and settings.
    • Work with limited supervision.
    • Must be familiar with social work ethics.
    • Must have good time management skills.
    • Must have a valid PA driver license and vehicle.
    • Respect of cultural differences, levels of education, physical functioning and, crisis situations in a non-judgmental manner.
    • BSW Degree in Social Work or related discipline. (Preferred)
    • At least 2-5 years of experience in Social Work or related field.
    • All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
    • PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.
