    Location/Department: Divisional Headquarters (DHQ), Youth Department (Hartford & Ashford, CT)

    Status: Exempt, Full-time

    Schedule: Mon-Fri and some weekends included for special events. Summer hours will vary as camp schedule requires this position to live at camp and participate in the regular camp schedule.


    Scope & Purpose of Position:

    Assist supervisor(s) in organizing and implementing the Camp CONNRI summer camp program as well as other Youth Department programming around the Division throughout the year.  Work with supervisor(s) to provide leadership in the implementation of a Christian Education program that will provide a stronger evangelistic presence for young people in the Southern New England Division.

    • Actively recruit summer camp staff.
    • Process summer employment packets in coordination with the Human Resources Department.
    • Assist in arranging and implementing staff orientation and other training.
    • Process all camper applications, working with the Corps/Service Unit liaisons to assure that all paperwork is properly completed, filed, and assessable.
    • Create camper cabin assignments for each camper session.
    • Organize and record weekly USDA paperwork for each camp session.
    • Assist DYS with all State, ACA, and camp staff paperwork and documents.
    • Support supervisors with the daily camp program and staff supervision.
    • Maintain appropriate time and attendance and other employment records in accordance with the Human Resources and Payroll Department policies.
    • Develop Christian Education programming for the summer camping season. This includes providing daily devotions, weekly Bible studies, and vespers.
    • Assist in the clerical duties of the Youth Department, including camper birthday cards, camp assessments, youth council registrations, troop registrations, Jamboree, etc.
    • Respond to questions, emails, phone calls, and mail correspondence.
    • Keep current with Connecticut State Licensing regulations and American Camping Association (ACA) standards, preparing all required material for inspections.
    • Create, promote, and facilitate programs to evangelize youth and foster deeper relationships with Christ for young adults of the SNE Division.
    • Coordinate Sunday School and children activities in the SNE Division.

    As time allows:

    • Provide support to all Corps, encouraging youth program growth and participation.
    • Provide leadership at all Divisional youth events.
    • Serve as a resource and maintain communication with all Corps Officers and Youth Leaders.
    • Develop evangelistic programs to increase troop participation in the SNE Division (Sunbeams, Adventure Corps, Girl Guards, etc.).
    • Participate in youth related seminars and conferences as approved (DYL, Youth Councils, commissioning, Divisional leadership training, etc.).
    • Develop and lead a spiritual arts program for the SNE division.
    • Order supplies from THQ and other venues, and ascertain that all corps receive all Sunday school and children’s activities materials in a timely manner.
    • Assist in Monthly MADD program and Youth Commission meetings as directed by the DYS.

    • Must have a strong relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • Willing to accept and adhere to The Salvation Army’s ministry focus and ecclesiastical position.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
    • Ability to work with people in leadership and have experience working with youth is required.
    • Capable of supervising employees is required.
    • Must have experience with program development.
    • Must have organizational skills and be able to work independently.
    • Ideal candidate will possess both strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with coordinating events is highly preferred.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, especially Excel and Word is preferred.
    • Familiarity with Connecticut State Licensing regulations and American Camping Association (ACA) standards is a plus.
