Under the supervision of the Genesis House Program Manager, the Resident Assistant will assist in the domestic management of the shelter and provide supervision, guidance counseling and support for its residents.
Access and identify client needs, including the following: Meet with client at intake to complete paperwork, complete all forms in the packet, ensure that all forms are started within 30 minutes of the youth’s arrival, ensure that intake/discharge paperwork is completed before leaving your shift.
Monitor youth by checking daily shift log upon beginning shift, reading the file of any youth who is new to you, enforcing GH rules, check sign-in and sign-out sheet for completeness and attend in-house meetings to monitor youth behavior.
Responsible for domestic management of the shelter by monitoring youth as they clean interior & exterior, provide cleaning material and assist in cleaning.
Maintain necessary statistics and program records. Ensure that all paperwork is complete and accurate. Complete a daily progress note on each client every shift.
Provide supportive counseling and guidance to clients. Meet with youth as a group at least once a week. Display and model appropriate boundaries. Talk with youth individually or in groups and document same in client file.
On-going training; Attend at least 1 staff meeting per quarter, complete training log based upon training opportunities offered by The Salvation Army, community conferences, in-house videos.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of High School Diploma with experience considered. Associates or higher degree preferred.
Six months of post degree paid experience as a counselor in a residential or community program for children or youth, emergency or general social services. An understanding and working knowledge of adolescent development is also important.
Experience working with youth particularly ages 16-20 years, both male and female, is essential.
Experience working with vulnerable populations is essential.
Interpersonal, crisis intervention and communication skills needed.
Ability to work in a continually changing and challenging environment.
