    Location/Department: New Haven Corps (New Haven, CT)

    Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

    Hours Per Week: 12

    Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday;  2:30 pm – 6:30 pm

     

    Scope & Purpose of Position:

    Execute the Bridging the Gap (BTG) program and support the Bridging the Gap Coordinator to ensure the program objectives are met for The Salvation Army in Greater New Haven.

    Responsibilities

    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

    • Help plan and assist in execution of the BTG Curriculum.
    • Review lesson plans and offer input.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings with the BTG Coordinator.
    • Attend at least one group per week as an observer.
    • Discuss each participant’s progress with BTG Coordinator and interns.
    • Maintain and up-to-date list of participants’ addresses.
    • Advocate for participants where necessary.
    • Be available to meet with participants.
    • Be knowledgeable about outside referral services.
    • Be able to handle and teach difficult teens at
    • Be available to attend training sessions.
    • Coordinate with area colleges and graduate programs to recruit interns and volunteers.
    • Represent The Salvation Army’s social mission in the BTG program.
    • Refer persons with spiritual needs to The Salvation Army Officer who is an ordained minister of religion.

    Qualifications

    • Experience working in a young adult setting.
    • Experience working with disadvantaged youths is preferred.
    • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
    • Ability to be flexible with duties and assignments.
    • Able to perform duties with minimal supervision and work independently.
    • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Able to follow safe work practices.
    • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
