    Department:  The Salvation Army Reading Corps Learning Center

    Availability of Position:   Immediate

    Schedule: Part-Time; 20-29 hours per week 

    Reporting Relationship: Learning CenterDirector

    Salary and Grade:   $13.00 per hour; 74 non-exempt

    Position Overview: The Program Assistant's primary responsibilities include: but are not limited to: facilitating The Salvation Army's Youth Programs (Play & Learn, After-School (Manana, Modelo, REACH), Summer Programs), Adult Education Programs (GED, ESL, Computer Literacy) at assigned locations as well as tracking & collecting of data as outlines by the supervisor.  The Assistant will provide timely feedback regarding all program activities, program participants, etc.  as outlined in The Learning Center Policies & Procedures Manual.  Other projects will be assigned by the supervisor which require organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.

    Responsibilities

    Provide timely feedback (daily, weekly) to the supervisor regarding the curriculum implementation via verbal communication, email and written lesson plan notes. Facilitate lessons provided through the approved standardized curriculum. Present Christian curriculum and programs, offering spiritual guidance and care as is appropriate. Conduct required educational assessments (pre/post-tests, surveys etc.) and record results using approved data collection tools in a timely manner.  Implement the curriculum as instructed by the Learning Center Director and written protocols as may be developed. Use the approved evaluation tools provided to collect, measure and track goals and objectives. Prepare and submit TSA reports as directed, detailing attendance and the necessary statistics as required by policy and procedure in a timely manner. Conduct routine correspondence as needed on a timely basis per instruction of The Learning Center Director. Seek approval for all changes/additions in the program before implementation. Work as scheduled to meet the needs of program participants including community partners.  Hours will be at the discretion of the supervisor.  Develop creative program delivery tools and methods to enhance the success of the programming. Attend assigned training and education opportunities to support the ongoing success of the program and continued education of the Program Assistant.  Some training may be mandatory and at the discretion of the supervisor.  Identify resources for education, training, curriculum development, etc. that will enhance the continuous improvement objectives for the program and staff.  Provide and record as directed all data related to program outcomes measurement. Participate in department meetings by providing helpful feedback and ideas/solutions to identified hindrances to the program’s continued growth and improvement. Participate in special events as needed (art shows, fund-raising events, etc.) Participate in committees and community boards as assigned. Performs related duties as assigned. Full time required over the summer for Summer Day Camp program. As assigned, present reports internally to boards and committees, externally at funders and program partners. Communicate effectively with participants and their parents/guardians as needed and directed by supervisor.  Lead & participate in efforts to recruit and train volunteers in support of programs. Protect all youth in your care by ensuring that all volunteers (community, student, interns, parents, etc.) are cleared for access to children through established TSA and legal requirements. Drive TSA vehicle as needed and assigned. This is not a complete list of duties and are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director or Corps Officers.

    Qualifications

    Bilingual English/Spanish highly desirable. 2 year associates degree in related field preferred or a minimum of 2 years related experience. Flexibility to work assigned shifts as required to meet program needs and flexibility to change as needed. Must possess excellent organizational skills, patience, creativity and love for urban/multicultural youth & families. Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment but also able to work independently. Effective time management and strong organization skills are required. Cultural competency working with participants of various backgrounds and experience with inner-city youth. Must be able to adapt, sometimes quickly, to meet the needs of the organization and the community. Must be a detail-oriented, logical thinker who is a motivated self-starter and able to work independently on assigned projects. Computer skills required (email, Word, Excel, Power Point, internet research). Valid Driver's License and able to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army's insurance company. As a mandated reporter the applicant must pass background checks required by PA Act 153:  PA State Police Criminal Record Check; FBI criminal record check (fingerprinting may be required); Child abuse background check. Successfully complete mandated reporter training on recognizing and reporting child abuse and Salvation Army KeepSAfe training within 30 days of employment. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
