    Position Overview: The Chester Corps Director of Social Services is a highly motivate person who is committed to the mission of The Salvation Army, strives to serve disadvantaged individuals and families with dignity and professionalism.  The goal of the Director is to ensure that at risk individuals and families receive human services in accordance with Salvation Army standards of service and that the operation and programs of human services at the Chester Corps are relevant to the needs of the community and offered with the highest standards and quality service.

    Responsibilities

    Supervise all Stepping Stone employees, including: interviewing and recommending potential employees, conducting regular meetings with subordinate staff to obtain feedback and provide direction on homeless and human services.  Participate in monthly employee meetings and Stepping Stone and Warming Center employees evaluations.  Participate in weekly coordinating meeting with Commanding Officer.  Schedule shelter case management and monitoring schedules, and arrange for staff training as necessary, etc. Project administration, including procedure development and implementation in accordance with the developed plan for the shelter and human services programs. Assure contract compliance, ensuring that the projects meet objectives and conforms to HUD, Delaware County, United Way and other funding sources requirements, as well as preparation and submission of monthly invoices. Represents Shelter and Human Services programs to other agencies and organizations (public and private), as well as to the general public. Community relations, including developing effective working relationships with peer agencies and community - based advocacy groups. Government agency relations including project reporting (HUD, Delaware County, United Way and other funding sources.) Oversee sub-contractor relations with drug and alcohol and mental health counseling services. Decide daily on the need to activate the Warming Center. Communicate the decision with Warming Center Supervisor and Warming Center monitors.     Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree in Social Worker (MSW) required. With 5 years of supervisor experience; including the running of a shelter program.
    • Candidate must be able to uphold confidentiality and maintain professional ethics.
    • Prior work experience working with homeless persons and Human Services.
    • This position requires a capable person, able to maximize available resources for the benefit of the Shelter and Human Services programs and those who care about the program and those who rely upon it.  
    • Must be able to work with little day-to-day supervision.
    • Ability to plan, coordinate and direct a staff of professional, support, and volunteer personnel.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local area social service agencies and the public.
    • Ability to organize data and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Valid PA driver’s license.
    • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks:   PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
