    TITLE: Summer Camp Coordinator                                            

    DEPARTMENT: The Salvation Army, Wilmington, DE                           

    REPORTS TO: Director of Children’s Services                           

    AVAILABLE: June 18-August 10, 2018      

    SCHEDULE: Full-Time; Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM – Friday 5:30 PM.          

    SALARY and Grade: $15.00 per hour; 74 Non-Exempt

     

    POSITION OVERVIEW: The Summer Camp Coordinator works with the Children’s Services Director to coordinate the summer program, leading camp counselors, supervises groups of children who range in age from 6 to 11 year, etc.. They help ensure that our day camp experience is a positive, fun and learning experience with children.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in serving meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods.
    • Discipline children and recommend or initiate other measures to control behavior, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys and books.
    • Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to parents’ or guardians’ attention.
    • Observe and monitor children’s play activities.
    • Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
    • Assist children if needed in swimming pool or on to gym equipment.
    • Provide morale support to children, as needed or refer them to the teacher.
    • Read to children and teach them simple painting, drawing, handcrafts and songs.
    • Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
    • Responsible to collect trip payments and distribute tickets.
    • Instruct and lead recreational activities.
    • Lift or transport ill or injured children, maintain a safe environment for children, recognize childhood diseases, physical or emotional abuse
    • Writes weekly news letters for the parents.

    • Additional duties may be assigned by as required for the efficient and effective operation of The Salvation Army of Delaware Program Activities.

     

    Qualifications

    You must be able to obtain clearances required by the Joseph R Biden III and the Child Protection Act.  Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Child care certificate with a minimum of 150 hours of working with children. Working toward a TEC 1 &2 or an Associates’ degree in Early Childhood Education.
